The Global Transmission department provides in-depth analyses of all grid-related topics that are commercially relevant for RWE’s business. The department is a global and interdisciplinary hub supporting all technologies including renewables, batteries, hydrogen and conventional projects. The focus area of this role is the European power system, and Poland in particular.

The position as Senior Transmission Analyst requires a high affinity for analytical work as well as strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. You will be part of a highly dynamic, international and diverse environment. The role comes with occasional international travel, working remotely and demonstrating a pro-active and autonomous approach to work. Your principal responsibilities include:
 

  • Providing in-depth knowledge of Polish and other European power transmission and distribution systems (e.g. grid connection and upgrade processes, cost allocation, curtailment risks etc.) and monitoring the regulatory framework
  • Collaborating with the Development and Engineering departments on site / point of interconnection (POI) selection, supporting the interconnection process
  • Assessing potential project designs, business models and risks in relation to the grid and from an integrated technical and commercial perspective
  • Developing power flow and congestion forecasting models, managing external studies, and providing grid-related assumptions for financial project valuation and long-term power market models
  • Gathering and sharing knowledge within multi-disciplinary project teams, presenting progress and findings to different working groups, functions and (senior) management
  • Maintaining good relationships with grid operators and other relevant stakeholders, and participating in stakeholder processes. Support the Regulatory Affairs team in advocating for transmission projects and ensure policy advocacy is aligned with transmission needs

 

Your powerful skills 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related/similar subject 
  • Appropriate professional working experience of 5-10 years minimum
  • Knowledge and experience in power grid planning and development, and/or project interconnection
  • Experienced in performing power flow simulations (e.g. for curtailment studies) with power flow software, e.g. DigSilent. Power World
  • Knowledge in power system economics and operation
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate complex information clearly and in a customer-oriented way, including written and verbal presentations to (senior) management
  • Enthusiastic about learning and highly proactive, identifying value opportunities and proposing solutions to them under own initiative
  • Professional fluency in Polish and English

 

Advantageous, but not a must

  • Work experience with Polish grid operators, consultants, associations or regulators, and/or similar active network
  • Scripting in DeepL, Python or similar to enhance power flow simulations
  • Familiarity with Polish and EU grid and market regulation
  • Experience regarding the economics of power generation and renewable energies in particular
  • Additional European language skills would be an advantage
