The Vice President, Federal Government Affairs will lead the company’s federal advocacy strategy and engagement with Congress, the Administration, and key federal agencies. This role is responsible for shaping and advancing policy outcomes aligned with the company’s strategic priorities, managing high‑level government relationships, and ensuring coordinated, credible advocacy across internal and external stakeholders. This role will also oversee the development of the political contributions plan and inform the PAC strategy over the 4-year election cycle.
The VP will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, anticipate political and policy risks and opportunities, and represent the company in complex, high‑stakes regulatory and legislative environments.
Role Responsibilities:
- Federal Advocacy Strategy: Set and execute federal advocacy strategy that directly advances corporate priorities and business outcomes
- Translate complex federal policy dynamics into actionable insights, enabling informed decision‑making across the business.
- Policy Development: Engage with Policy team to develop high priority company policy positions to help shape RWECE’s platforms and company advocacyTrade Association Engagement
- Political Consultants: Direct and hold accountable Washington, DC‑based political consultants and lobbyists, ensuring timely intelligence, high‑quality analysis, and contract performance
- PAC and Political Contributions Strategy: Oversee the development and execute a multi‑year political engagement and PAC strategy that strengthens relationships and supports advocacy goals, aligning resources to priorities and delivering disciplined, multi‑year financial planning
- Compliance: Ensure full political and lobbying compliance, embedding a strong compliance culture across internal teams and external partners
- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead Executive Leadership federal engagement, including strategy development, briefings, and serving as primary liaison for senior‑level interactions
- Thought Leadership: Position RWE US as a credible energy policy leader, in close coordination with Communications and Policy, among key federal policymakers, influencers, trade associations, and coalitions
Job Requirements and Experiences:
- Bachelors degree in policy management, political science or another related field required
- Advanced degree (Juris Doctor, Public Policy) a plus
- Minimum 10 years of federal government policy/advocacy experience, with at least 7 years of private sector lobbying
- Proven demonstration of developing advocacy plans and political contributions strategies
- Demonstrated success advancing legislative or regulatory priorities at the federal level
- Demonstrated relationships with key congressional and executive branch offices
- Deep knowledge of federal legislative, regulatory, and appropriations processes
- Proven ability to operate effectively in complex, high profile political environments
- Demonstrated experience working with policy influentials in government or private sector
- Demonstrated track record of shaping legislative outcomes both directly through lobbying and indirectly through influencing trade associations
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute political strategies to achieve high priority business outcomes
- Experience supervising third party firms and consultants
- Ability to communicate effectively to multiple levels in the organization, including executive leadership
- Ability to collaborate and partner effectively on shared outcomes
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguity and communicate effectively with team members
- This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWE Americas office and field locations
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $246,000- $330,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
