RWE Renewables is looking to recruit an Marine Biodiversity Specialist for the Offshore Development Benelux Team.  

 

These are exciting times for RWE with the company developing and constructing the OranjeWind offshore wind farm in The Netherlands as well as many offshore wind tenders planned in the Benelux in the coming years.
RWE strongly believes in the power of the presence of a local team as a basic ingredient for successful participation in offshore wind. This approach is combined with support from various international departments where all required expertise is available. By doing so, RWE has not only been able to win several auctions in recent years, but has also been able to develop and construct the relevant wind farms on time and within budget. 


As a Marine Biodiversity Specialist you will have a key role within the development organization to support in reaching RWE’s 2030 sustainability target to become net-positive for biodiversity on new assets. This includes extensive participation in our project OranjeWind and to realize the build-out of our offshore wind farms. You will also focus on ecological pilot projects and Joint Industry Programs to build knowledge and expertise, that support that our potential is used across the RWE Offshore Wind portfolio. 

 

You have good insight into environmental matters, procedures and legal frameworks relevant for the Benelux. You will be expected to take a diverse and consistent role in supporting the Development Team in strategic environmental topics and ecological matters, with a focus on birds and bats. You work closely with various experts, including other ecologists, lawyers, permit managers, HSE managers, engineers, consultants, governments and external partners. 

 

The role is primarily based in Utrecht, however, travel across Netherlands and within some of the Central Europe countries will be required on a regular basis and working from outside the office is possible.  

 

Your future plans 

 

  • Act as marine ecology manager/specialist within our existing project pipeline with a main focus on birds and bats.  
  • Provide environmental and ecological support and advice throughout the organisation (e.g. in the OranjeWind project). 
  • Being responsible for fulfilling environmental including ecological conditions throughout the project development phases, including preparation and reviewing of for example the relevant EIAs
  • Facilitate implementation of innovative environmental and ecological solutions in close collaboration with our technical and innovation departments and external partners. 
  • Liaise on a continual basis with authorities, partners, and other stakeholders related to environment including ecology. 

 

 

Your profile
 

  • You have a university degree in e.g. environmental sciences, marine ecology or a comparable discipline. 
  • You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the field of (marine) biodiversity, with a particularly recognizable expertise in birds and bats and offshore renewable energy development. 
  • In depth understanding of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) approaches and delivery, including impact and mitigation measures. 
  • Experience in working in complex and multidisciplinary projects and teams 
  • Advanced communication skills (written and verbal) in Dutch and English and ability to communicate complex issues to internal and external stakeholders including relevant authorities and contractors. 
  • You are a person who likes being part of a team. Your way of working is independent, structured and conscientious.
