Based at the RWE Renewables office in Tokyo, the role owner will undertake Stakeholder Management activities to support offshore wind projects from origination and through the development phases until the handover to the construction team at final investment decision. The role owner is responsible for stakeholder management activities associated with a portfolio of early stage, bidding and pre-FID offshore wind projects. Key external contacts will be relevant government officials, fishery associations, academic institutions, local chambers of commerce and suppliers throughout the regions of Japan where RWE Renewables is undertaking development activities.

 

About the role

 

  • Conduct professional stakeholder management activities and close collaboration with the development team members to support the development and delivery of offshore wind projects in Japan, with an initial focus on Hokkaido 
  • Partners: Work in collaboration with project JV partners ensuring smooth communication and alignment on project activities where external stakeholder engagement is required
  • Development activities: Conduct stakeholder management activities to ensure the smooth progression of project development activities including site selection and negotiation with fisheries, local municipalities and government and other relevant local stakeholders
  • Relationships: Develop positive and trusting relationship with key local stakeholders to build consensus regarding offshore wind project
  • Local contribution activities: Support the development and execution of attractive local contribution plans for offshore wind projects in order formulate competitive and well evaluated bids for offshore development projects 
  • Provide support to bidding projects across a range of stakeholder management and local contribution topics including both drafting and reviewing bid documents and proposals to METI/MLIT 
  • Collaboration with external organisations: Collaboration with external organisations including universities, government agencies and trade associations
  • HSE: Promote our high HSE standards and procedures; Share local insights and ensure that global best practices and learnings get implemented locally


Job requirements and experience

 

  • Native fluency in Japanese language and simple conversation level English
  • Posess a driving license and able to drive a car
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with an ability to develop trusted relationships with a wide range of external parties at various levels of seniority
  • More than 5 years of business development and-or stakeholder management experience in the Japanese energy industry, preferably in or related to origination and development 
  • Understanding of energy markets, renewable technologies and of national and regional regulations relevant for wind offshore development
  • Willingness to travel regionally (monthly basis) and internationally (occasionally)
