Your role


RWE Renewables, the newest subsidiary of the RWE Group, is one of the world's leading renewable energy companies. With around 3,500 employees, the company has onshore and offshore wind farms, photovoltaic plants and battery storage facilities with a combined capacity of approximately 9 gigawatts. RWE Renewables is driving the expansion of renewable energy in more than 15 countries on four continents. By the end of 2022, RWE Renewables targets to invest €5 billion net in renewable energy and to grow its renewables portfolio to 13 gigawatts of net capacity. Beyond this, the company plans to further grow in wind and solar power. The focus is on the Americas, the core markets in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.


To help enable the implementation of RWE Renewables strategy in Japan the Legal team is looking for a Senior Lawyer Partnering (JP) to be based in Tokyo. You will provide legal support for M&A transactions, corporate law and housekeeping in the area of renewable energy in Japan.


Your future plans


  • Be one of the key legal advisors handling all legal matters of RWE Renewables’ renewable energy transactions
  • Advise the business on transaction contracts, including development of drafts and negotiation of related documentation
  • Advise the business on all transactional legal matters
  • Provide support (including liaising with external counsel) in related dispute resolution situations
  • Work across the international RWE Renewables’ business, alongside other members of the RWE Renewables Legal Team and engage with other support functions to deliver a holistic and streamlined service to the business of RWE Renewables
  • Manage organisational or coordination tasks incl. process optimisation


Your profile


  • Graduated in law with distinction and qualified as solicitor in Japan or similar jurisdiction
  • 5+ years of working experience with M&A transactions and corporate law in an international law firm or company, preferably in the renewables energy sector and preferably in Japan
  • Commercial and technical understanding
  • Organisational, analytical and communication skills, solution-oriented mindset
  • Customer-orientation and consulting skills
  • High level of engagement, enjoy working in an international team including travel
  • Flexibility and ability to work professionally and accurately under pressure
  • Management skills
  • Very good command of Japanese and English is essential
