Senior Electrical Grid Engineer (JP)

Due to increasing workload on the RWE Renewables projects in Europe and APAC, we are now seeking a Senior Electrical Grid Engineer to be based in Japan. Initially the focus will be on offshore wind farm projects. There may also be a requirement to support RWE’s other activities such as onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects.

 

Your future plans

 

The Senior Engineer will sit in RWE Renewables’ Asset Engineering Department, supporting the Project’s Engineering and Package Managers with responsibilities including:

  • Working  initially in all phases of our offshore wind farm projects, the Engineer will be responsible for ensuring a robust and optimised through life design of the project’s electrical system supporting on all aspects of the generation and transmission system up to the grid interface point.
  • Advise projects on specific questions regarding electrical system behave, grid code compliance and interconnection processes
  • Lead and coordinate interconnection processes, organize all relevant technical documentation, test reports, certifications and RCAs
  • Lead design/ prequalification for packages of wind farms/ PV schemes/ battery storage plants and components performing audits and technical due diligences. Create simulation models for electrical systems, perform e.g. load flow and short circuit calculations, analyse dynamic stability and harmonics stability as well as protection concepts
  • Plan and coordinate internal and external resources for technical due diligence projects (e.g. of M&A acquisitions), analyse simulation results, technical solutions and risks, make proposals for technical and commercial decisions. Analyse electrical system behave and grid code compliance for projects and existing plants
  • Close liaison with technical experts in Asset Engineering and Engineers working on similar projects to ensure their knowledge is effectively utilised on the project
     

Your profile

 

  • Several (at least 5) years of relevant work experience and above-average expertise in the design, construction and operation of offshore wind or similar renewable energy industry projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the application of relevant software programs such as MS Office, PowerFactory (load flow, short circuit, protection, RMS and EMT simulations), PSS/E, PSCAD
  • Excellent communication, coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful
  • Broad knowledge of the use of relevant guidelines, norms and standards (e.g. IEC61400) and Best Practise
  • University degree or comparable graduate education ideally in electrical power engineering
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese
