Project Controller (JP)

We are looking for a Project Controller (JP) based in Tokyo who will be part of a global Controlling (Finance) team to support the local growth of the business in Japan. This role will be to support the Offshore wind development and construction activities across a portfolio of assets in one of our growth markets.


Your future plans


  • Coordinate and challenge data and assumptions for input into business plan, forecasts or investment modelling. Challenge the numbers by reviewing them vs historic costs, available benchmarks, regional averages, previous submissions and also using experience gained from previous similar work and from project reviews.
  • Prepare the monthly reporting for the specific projects the role supports. This can include preparation of required accruals, produce reports and detailed analysis on the resource and non-resource costs.
  • Critically review project results, comparing actuals with forecast and budgeted figures. This needs to be transactional results, provide the implications and advise on corrective measures or offsetting opportunities.
  • Develop and implement Controlling related processes for new projects including project set up, company set up drawing on accounting and IT related support as necessary.
  • Produce key performance indicators and progress reports for submission into a monthly Steer Co pack for review by all senior Development and functional stakeholders.
  • Ensure internal controls are being adequately applied  e.g. Delegation of Authority for RWE investment spend , controls detailed in specific project shareholder agreements or local country specific procedures
  • Liaise with a number of internal/external stakeholders on all project cost related matters  as required. Internal stakeholders could include all levels of Offshore Development, Controlling or Accounting including Tax plus other supporting functions as required.
  • Ensure the financial process flow is progressing and in line with expectation, dealing with any alterations required to facilitate payments are made on time and without overspending.


Your profile


  • Significant experience working in Accounting and/or Controlling
  • Experienced in working with SAP or other ERP systems and Excel
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to deal with complex transactions / commercial issues
  • Knowledge of the basic renewables market structures preferable with a strong desire to expand knowledge of this market
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and global facing environment
  • Ability to manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Spoken and written fluency in Japanese and English
