Trade Operations Analyst - Cargo & Freight (Fixed Term)

About the role

At RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST), we drive the energy transition by trading power, gas and commodities across global markets. Our Back Office Cargo & Freight team ensures that every deal is accurately captured, controlled and settled, enabling the business to operate with speed and confidence.

As a Trade Operations Analyst, you will take ownership across the end-to-end trade lifecycle for Cargo & Freight transactions executed by our Biofuels, Dry Bulk Origination, LNG and Freight desks. You will work closely with Trading, Risk and Finance, ensuring operational excellence while continuously improving processes, controls and data quality.

• Ensure accurate daily trade capture and take ownership of operational workflows across the trade lifecycle
• Manage confirmations, invoicing and settlement processes, identifying risks and delays early
• Maintain strong operational controls and ensure consistent, reliable processing across complex deal structures
• Analyse trade data to identify root causes and resolve operational issues
• Drive process improvements and contribute to automation initiatives using tools such as Excel, Power Automate, Copilot or Python
• Collaborate closely with Front Office, Risk, Finance, Accounting and Legal to ensure smooth end-to-end execution

Job requirements and experience

• Strong analytical thinking and operational mindset, with the ability to translate data into practical solutions that maintain robust controls and support the company’s Risk governance framework
• Clear and confident communication in a fast-paced, deadline-driven trading environment
• Solid Excel skills and a strong interest in working with data and systems
• Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple topics in parallel
• A collaborative mindset combined with ownership, accountability and a proactive approach to improvement

Advantageous, but not essential

• Exposure to commodities markets or trading environments
• Knowledge of systems such as Endur or SAP
• Experience with automation tools such as Python, Power Automate or VBA
