About the role  

Are you passionate about driving the energy transition forward? Do you have a blend of project management, leadership, and technical expertise? We’re seeking a UK Team Lead Battery Project Development within the Battery team of the Commercial Asset Management function to spearhead innovative, large-scale battery storage projects. Join our Battery Development team and make a tangible impact on the future of renewable energy.  
In this role, you’ll lead a team of project managers, overseeing the end-to-end development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) from concept to construction-readiness across the UK. You’ll shape a dynamic and diverse team while optimising processes to deliver best-in-class solutions.  

  • Lead and guide a team of project managers with full commercial responsibility across all phases of BESS projects, from site scouting and development up to final investment decision as well as the acquisition of battery projects from third parties.  
  • Support the team to achieve commercial best-in-class solutions at the interface of technology and markets. 
  • Guide the team to identify commercial trade-offs in any kind of contracts and negotiate optimal outcomes. 
  • Optimise and standardise processes for BESS development, ensuring high quality, timely milestone completion, and capturing lessons learned across all projects.  
  • Act as a SteerCo member, overseeing the asset development and execution phase while ensuring alignment with project scope, budget, and timeline.  
  • Coordinate the development of project pipelines, implementing necessary tools and procedures to manage grid connection, land securing, and permitting processes.  
  • Oversee scheduling and prioritisation of multiple BESS projects, ensuring strategic decisions align with broader company goals.  

 

Job requirements and experience  

  • University degree in Industrial Engineering, Economics (with engineering experience), Project Management or a related field.  
  • Proven team lead experience with the ability to represent the overall Battery Development Head in the UK 
  • Significant experience in project development, ideally within the energy sector, with a focus on battery storage or renewable energy.  
  • Proven track record in managing large, complex infrastructure projects through the entire lifecycle, from initiation to construction readiness including contract negotiation.  
  • In-depth understanding of project management methodologies, including risk management, scheduling, and cost control.  
  • Familiarity with grid connection processes, land securing activities, and permitting.  
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives across teams.  
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.  
  • Commitment to transparency, collaboration, integrity, openness, adaptability, and trust. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage project teams and coordinate resources effectively, including external contractors and internal teams, taking everyone along.  
  • Proven ability to make informed decisions, balancing commercial, technical, and strategic factors, and to effectively guide the team in implementing these decisions.  
  • Ability to “take a step back” and adjust team direction to ensure strategic alignment.  
  • Fluent in English.  
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes.  

 

Advantageous, but not essential  

  • Knowledge in the field of battery or electrical engineering .
  • Familiarity with energy markets and regulatory frameworks.
