Functional area: Engineering

 

Your role will be to deliver all technical aspects relating to the offshore and onshore geophysical data for our renewable energy projects. You’ll work across our global portfolio of wind farms at all stages of development, from early site prospecting to post-construction surveys.

 

About the role:

  • You will be responsible for creating, developing, and continually improving onshore and offshore geophysical survey design, specification, technical tender assessment, and acquired data collation and review, ensuring our surveys deliver high levels of quality and accuracy for our internal and external stakeholders
  • You will bring proven experience in aspects such as UXO and geohazard identification and mitigation; mapping of seabed and subsurface features; ground model development; and data management
  • You will be responsible for communicating results across technical disciplines both internally within RWE and externally with stakeholders, as well as sharing knowledge within the team to ensure lessons learned lead to improvement in our processes
  • You’ll be an advocate both within RWE and the wider geoscience community for geophysical site characterisation and work within the Geophysics and Metocean team to develop and validate innovative solutions to situations we encounter on our projects

 

Job requirements and experience:

  • MSc or equivalent in Geophysics, or a relevant geoscience discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in the interpretation of geophysical datasets in a range of file formats, including UHRS, and integrating these with geotechnical data
  • Ability to QC large and varied technical reports and geophysical datasets, including deliverables for sidescan sonar, magnetometer, gradiometer, sub-bottom profiler, and UHR data
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of requirements for pUXO, archaeological, environmental, and hydrographic surveys for all stages of project development, including but not limited to consents surveys, engineering design, and post-construction works
  • Demonstrable competency on complex projects working within multi-discipline teams; you’ll have advanced communication skills at all levels and a good team mindset
  • Familiarity with current and novel marine geophysical and nearshore survey techniques and specialist software such as ArcGIS, SonarWiz, Oasis Montaj, S&P Kingdom, Petrel, etc.
  • High regard and good knowledge of current UK health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Thorough understanding of Industry Technical Codes, Process, and Regulations
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally

 

Advantageous, but not essential:

  • Proven background in shallow water geophysical surveys, knowledge of deepwater seismic and ROV/AUV surveys
  • Thorough appreciation of UK regulatory requirements for offshore wind surveys; knowledge of international regulatory requirements
  • Chartered membership

 

Flexibility to work some time “out of hours” as part of a wider survey team to provide technical support to live survey projects would be desirable
