Our Legal and Compliance team advises on all legal and compliance matters on a global scale. This role involves collaboration with our global business and commercial functions that trade physical bulk commodities, manage shipping, and handle logistics, as well as with our global freight trading business.

You will provide legal advice related to physically traded commodities, vessel chartering, and operations within the trading business of RWE Supply & Trading GmbH, encompassing both dry bulk and liquid products. Your initial responsibilities will include: 

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts for the sale and purchase of physically delivered commodities and associated logistics agreements.
  • Addressing credit and finance matters related to the shipping and physical commodities markets.
  • Handling legal aspects of time and voyage charter parties, and negotiating chartering terms with counterparties before fixing vessels.
  • Reviewing standard and non-standard shipping and trading documentation, including bills of lading, letters of indemnity (LOIs), and documentary and standby letters of credit.

 

Your powerful skills

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with relevant working experience, either in a law firm or in-house  associated with a junior to mid-level  position in those organisations.
  • Preferably, experience in the energy sector with a desire to further develop skills in physical commodity trading and related assets and businesses.
  • Ability to provide advice on a substantial portion of your daily work independently without frequent recourse to external counsel.
  • Strong legal technical ability in either contentious or non-contentious work, with a track record of quickly learning and advising on new areas of law.
  • Self-motivated to drive business results, develop new legal skills, and adapt to new areas of law with appropriate support.
  • Comfortable advising stakeholders as equals, confidently defending your position when challenged.
  • Enjoy working in a global context, including cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship management skills.
