Junior Software Developer

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Software Developer to join us in our Swindon Offices!


What does the role look like?

This opportunity is to join an innovative and dynamic application development team, supporting RWE’s power generation businesses in UK and Europe!


RWE Generation runs an IT applications portfolio including web, mobile and cloud technologies, to deliver engineering and information management solutions. Our solutions portfolio includes integrated in-house and specialist vendor solutions, primarily based on Microsoft platforms.


Your responsibility will be to act as software developer for a variety of application solutions, and to help manage these solutions throughout the Solution Lifecycle including design, development and support. You will need to have a complete and detailed knowledge of the technologies, architectures, solutions, designs, implementation and underpinning technical standards.


The solutions run in outsourced data centres, therefore the successful candidate will also be required to work with, and direct the tasks of, infrastructure vendors at an operational level.


Key Responsibilities


  • Participate in the design, development and delivery of application solutions throughout their entire lifecycle, sourced both from multiple vendors and developed via internal teams
  • Participate with support in effective consultancy and guidance to internal and external customers
  • Liaise with 3rd party service providers ensuring compliance with company requirements for hosting
  • Build effective in-house and external relations to ensure maximum co-operation in solving customer requirements
  • Provide solid knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Support “Application Lead” to oversee and protect the integrity of their IT solutions
  • Input into the best practice and standards adopted within the team.


Your Technical Background


  • Has a solid understanding of one programming language. (C# or Angular).
  • Understands database structures and has working knowledge of database languages (e.g. SQL).
  • Understands data modelling, application development and/or testing methods and applies them under supervision.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Tools.
  • Adheres to documentation and coding standards.
  • Is familiar with the Quality Assurance processes.

  • Able to manage self, multi task and manage the delivery of competing priorities at the same time
  • Ability to breakdown issues and apply different approaches to arrive at the most favorable options
  • Capacity to assimilate new concepts quickly.
  • Ability to efficiently learn and apply templates/standard operating procedures.
  • Has sufficient communication skills for effective dialogue with customers, suppliers and partners. .
  • Basic understanding of the project life cycle.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communications skills
  • Basic understanding of the software delivery lifecycle (waterfall or agile) and key IT deliverables.
  • Understands infrastructure restrictions concerning availability, interfaces and data volumes and compares them to performance requirements.
