RWE operates the Arkona offshore wind farm, which was commissioned in 2018 and is located 35 kilometers northeast of the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea. Sassnitz serves as the operating harbor. With an installed capacity of 385 MW (60 x 6 MW Siemens turbines), Arkona supplies around 400,000 households with green energy. Arkona is a joint venture of RWE (50%), Equinor (25%), and Energy Infrastructure Partners (25%). RWE is in charge of operations throughout the entire lifecycle of the Arkona offshore wind farm.

 

The General Manager is responsible for managing the Operations & Maintenance of the wind farm and its substation, ensuring safety and maximum production in line with the cost targets set by the owners.

 

 

About the role 

  • Fully accountable for Arkona's asset performance, including P&L responsibility, and overall management of the wind farm business across safety, commercial, operational, and people aspects
  • Safety leadership to develop a generative safety culture, ensuring safe and compliant delivery of all operational and maintenance activities in line with applicable rules and regulations
  • Manage wind farm performance against commercial KPIs (EA, OPEX) defined in the mid-term plan, with responsibility for asset integrity and longevity
  • Continuously improve asset performance by working closely with all relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide hands-on leadership to motivate the wind farm team, supporting teams, and third parties to achieve performance targets and goals
  • Manage joint venture shareholders and lenders (where applicable), including obligations under relevant agreements, and oversee the JV partnership on all operational matters
  • Ensure management of, and compliance with, wind farm contracts and agreements
  • Contribute to the mid-term planning process and centrally run projects/initiatives, and collaborate closely with peers to share and adopt best practices

 

 

Job requirements and experience

  • Minimum 6-8 years' experience as a General Manager (or similar) managing operations on an Offshore Wind Farm, ideally in a JV setup, with extensive proven experience managing stakeholders in Offshore Wind Joint Ventures
  • Fluent German, close to native-speaker level, is a mandatory requirement
  • In-depth technical knowledge of Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) and subsea maintenance protocols, with a proven track record in Major Component exchanges for Offshore Wind Farms
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, SAP, and other operations software platforms relevant to wind farm maintenance
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, manage, and delegate effectively across multiple geographies and nationalities, including demonstrated success leading teams remotely and building high-performance teams
  • Results-driven and well-organized, able to set clear targets, meet deadlines, multitask, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, with a history of agile, decisive operational decision-making and demonstrated success collaborating with both management and technical teams to achieve operational goals
  • Solid offshore work background, including prior experience as a technician with ongoing physical ability to travel offshore and provide hands-on assistance, plus knowledge of marine life enhancement strategies and experience collaborating with marine biology universities
