The Senior Project Engineer supports the Engineering Manager in the management of the Floating Offshore Wind Farm design, optimization, certification and change management processes. The Senior Project Engineer shall have a solid technical background in offshore wind, onshore wind, or related fields.

The Senior Project Engineer will initially support RWE’s Northern California Floating Offshore Wind lease development activities. This position is expected to be based in our San Francisco area office 3 days a week to collaborate in person with the project team.

 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate project engineering activities to deliver competitive, optimized designs. In particular coordination of: Project-level design and optimization activities including project capacity, Footprint and layout selection; Energy production estimating; Project design envelope development; Cost estimating; Scenario analysis; and Integration of innovation workstreams.
  • Develop project documentation such as the project’s Basis of Design, Scopes of Work for contractors, and Requirement Specifications for packages.
  • Develop engineering documentation such as technical notes, reports, decision logs and change notes.
  • Supervise contractor activities and review contractor deliverables to ensure that design packages stay consistent with the Basis of Design, RWE requirements and project needs. Develop and respond to comment sheets and technical queries.
  • Manage multidisciplinary / multidepartment activities ensuring clear communication and alignment is maintained; prioritizing safety alongside deliverability, project commercial drivers and other design constraints.
  • Champion continuous improvement within workstreams.
  • Maintain robust documentation of workstreams and any resulting design decisions with supporting documentation.
  • Prepare information and documentation as a basis for technical and commercial decision making and reporting.
  • Coordinate interfaces across engineering disciplines and work streams as well as between internal company departments and contractors.
  • Strive to remain well-informed of technological innovations and practices through regular contact with other teams, projects, departments, industry and academic experts.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering from an accredited college program in a relevant field (Civil, Mechanical, Ocean, Electrical, Naval, etc.).
  • 10+ years of industry experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in Offshore Wind, Onshore Wind, Offshore Oil and Gas, or other large complex projects.
  • Multi-disciplinary background with exposure to a range of Offshore Wind related technical fields.
  • Experience of engineering system design and optimization, as well as cost and schedule estimation.
  • Good organizational skills and experience of project management.
  • Team player with advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to innovate and challenge the status quo with a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Willing to perform relevant offshore safety trainings and travel offshore for certain activities.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Experience managing engineering and design teams is preferred.
  • A good understanding of the competitive offshore wind market preferred.
  • Current or anticipated Project Management Professional certification preferred
  • Current or progressing toward Professional Engineer license preferred

 

Travel – up to 25%

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California is $148,000.00 min - $193,000.00max . The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
