RWE is growing its Italian Renewables activities. In line with the growth, the PE Europe South team is looking for a new technical Team Lead PE Italy to support our Europe South growth with special focus in the Italian market. 

As technical Team Lead PE Italy, you will be accountable for engineering and technical aspects of onshore wind, solar PV and hybrid projects with strong focus on plant optimization and future technical advantage in the marketspace.​ You will lead an integrated team fully responsible for region specific project engineering from project start to COD.  

PE Italy is part of the PE Europe South cluster which includes Greece, Italy and Spain. The PE Italy team will support the rest of the Europe South cluster and vice versa which will require alignment on priorities and resourcing together with the Head of PE South on the basis of an Europe South list of projects, engineering activities and timelines informed and anticipated by the main stakeholders (Development and Construction).  

Onshore wind, solar PV and hybrid systems are the technologies in scope of work.  

 

Your Tasks: 

  • Lead a team of diverse engineering disciplines delivering design engineering for our development and construction portfolio considering optimization across the full project life cycle. Team activities incl. e.g.: 

    • Prepare and/or review/align concept/basic Engineering of BoP (Geotech investigation, access, reticulation, grid connection, electrical infrastructure etc.)  partially in-house, partially with support from external engineering service providers; 

    • Prepare and/or review/align execution BoP designs, reports, specifications and drawings ensuring the compliance with national/international standards and project requirements (transport & erection, project consent requirements, GPS); 

    • Internal noise assessments and review of contractors’ results;

    • Wind measurement design, implementation and monitoring; 

    • Internal wind turbine load evaluation and lifetime estimations and review of OEM results 

    • Layout optimization for wind, solar and hybrid projects including calculation of energy yield (incl. losses, uncertainty and P-value calculation); 

    • Support the preparation of regulatory plans or administrative files such as environmental authorization/ building permit for wind, solar PV and hybrid projects with design input; 

    • Support technical due diligence of supplier products and their prequalification tender preparation, negotiation and procurement process for our projects linked to BoP; work with procurement to shape supply chain strategies delivering technical evaluation; 

    • Support the technical due diligence of projects (e.g. mergers & acquisitions), review and promote technical solutions detailing any subsequent risks and make proposals for technical and commercial decisions; 

    • Support project execution with engineering activities to ensure that sites get realized in line with the technical contract requirements and support arising problem solving in case of non-compliance; 

    • Identify new opportunities in the market re. engineering service providers for the design and execution phases. Technical lead benchmarking, pre-qualification and selection of external engineering service providers; 

  • Accountable for make or buy decisions linked to engineering services required for development and construction projects; responsible for quality of work performed by external engineering service providers. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Italian Development, Construction and Operations departments as well as with the global Engineering Communities of Practice within RWE Renewables and RWE Technology International, to make engineering delivery fit for purpose for a rapidly growing portfolio considering risk profile and portfolio effects and drive continuous improvement of technical specifications and designs with experience and feedback from operating assets. 

  • Ensure the highest level of environmental, health and safety are incorporated in all design aspects. 

 

Your Profile: 

  • University degree in electrical, civil, mechanical, industrial engineering or similar. 

  • Several years of relevant working experience in project engineering disciplines in renewables. 

  • Strong commercial judgment of complex technological and commercial correlations and ability to solve complex technical issues. 

  • Strong understanding of both Italian Standards and International Standards associated with engineering. 

  • Strong HSE commitment. 

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis. 

  • Good communications skills. Italian and fluent in English (speaking and writing).
