Are you passionate about renewable energy and geospatial data? Join RWE Renewables Italy as a GIS Intern and support our Development Team in advancing innovative wind, solar, and storage projects across the country.
In this internship, you will work closely with our GIS team to provide high-quality mapping and spatial analysis for various renewable energy projects including wind, solar, and hybrid solutions. You’ll contribute to the development of web map solutions, analyze geospatial data, and support project planning with impactful cartographic outputs.
As part of a key team driving the onshore renewables growth strategy in Italy, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in the application of GIS tools and methodologies within the renewable energy sector.
About the role
- Creating maps and data visualization products using GIS or related software to support renewable energy project development
- Performing data analysis using GIS and related extensions/add-ons, and other computer software
- Maintaining GIS databases for individual projects in an organized manner and according to current data standards and geospatial best practices
- Ensuring compliance of potential project areas with territorial and environmental planning regulations
- Reviewing and validating external maps and technical drawings provided by the Development Team
- Providing GIS-related support and guidance to other team members as needed
- Assisting in the creation of documents and presentations to convey development recommendations, division/departmental communication initiatives, and GIS-related technical/business documentation
- Developing and maintaining GIS datasets and databases, including cadastral, environmental, topographic, and aerial data, both locally and online
- Collecting and verifying GIS data from public and private sources to support advanced project development
- Identifying and communicating data quality issues to project managers
- Provide technical assessments of development projects
Job requirements and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or final-year student) in Environmental or Natural Sciences, Geomatics, Geography, Engineering, Urban Planning, Earth Sciences, or a related field
- Working knowledge of GIS software (QGis required, ArcGis Pro is a plus)
- Strong interest in wind, solar, and battery project development and in related environmental regulations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment managing challenging deadlines and priorities
- Excellent written and spoken Italian; good command of English, both written and spoken
Advantageous, but not essential
- Coding/Scripting capability (Python etc) to encourage automation where practical
- Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD)
- Experience maintaining large GIS datasets
