This is a unique career opportunity to play a key role in the formation of a trading and origination business in a market of strategic importance to a long established, and highly respected international energy trading company that has physical and financial energy markets in its DNA.

Your role
As the Risk Controller, you will focus on the business activities of the newly created ‘Americas Trading and Origination’ business based in New York City. You will be a core team member of the wider US Risk Control team based in Chicago and will also participate in risk activities related to the hedging and optimization of the group’s renewables assets in North America. You’ll report into the Head of US Risk and Revenue Controlling based in Chicago, and will regularly work together with the wider Risk function in the European offices. Your responsibilities will include: 

• Daily reporting to the Board and other stakeholders on the desk’s key market risks and P&L performance;
• Analyzing and explaining the desk’s trading strategies, market risk positions and P&L performance with standard metrics as well as ad hoc assessments;
• Ensuring risk operational best practices are followed, and the desk’s compliance with the commercial mandate as well as risk limit framework and risk policy;
• Providing innovative ideas and analysis steering the risk framework for the strategic growth of the wider US business;
• Interfacing cross-functionally both within RWETA and globally across the wider RWE organization, especially with Risk colleagues in the Chicago office; 

Your powerful skills

• A Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the northeast U.S. power and/or natural gas markets.
• Knowledge of the applicable regional energy market fundamentals (e.g. load, generation, transmission, transport, storage) and familiarity with the relevant tradeable products (OTC and exchange). 
• Experience in other regional U.S. power/natgas markets is an advantage;
• Strong understanding of trading risk management practices and metrics, compliance procedures and regulatory frameworks in the U.S.;
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to work within tight deadlines;
• Aptitude for thinking on your feet and finding solutions to complex problems; 
• Be self-motivated, a strong team-player, have an ability to take responsibility and a willingness to challenge and improve existing processes;
• Exceptional communication skills and proven collaborative, relationship management skills; Excitement to work in a role requiring daily in-person collaboration with your colleagues on our state-of-the-art trading floor in central Manhattan;
