YOUR ROLE

The Senior Manager, Origination will be responsible for identifying, securing, and executing land and access agreements that underpin RWE’s renewable energy development portfolio in Australia. This role focuses on face-to-face regional engagement, connecting with prospective landholders to determine sentiment, and negotiating and securing the access licences, options, leases, and easement agreements required to progress projects from origination through to development.

The Senior Manager will work closely with the Development, Legal, and Community Engagement teams to execute the origination strategy and feed insights back into its ongoing evolution. The role requires a direct, honest, and empathetic approach to landholder engagement, building long-term credibility by delivering on commitments and managing expectations with integrity within regional communities.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Land Access and Agreement Negotiation

  • Execute origination strategies to underpin RWE's Australian Wind, Solar, and BESS project portfolio.
  • Identify and engage prospective landholders to secure land access, lease agreements, options, and easements through direct engagement with landowners, farmers, and regional stakeholders.
  • Deliver against the origination strategy, tracking progress across the site pipeline and reporting on key milestones, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective sites, landholders, and strategic land access partners across target development regions.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all landowner communications, agreements, and commitments within the company CRM to ensure compliance and continuity.

Stakeholder Management and Industry Engagement

  • Identify key regional influencers, agricultural groups, traditional owners, and local government bodies to understand community dynamics and sentiment.
  • Feed regional and community insights back to project development and technology teams to inform site layout adjustments, mitigation strategies, and project prioritisation.

Due Diligence and Spatial Assessment

  • Assist legal and development teams in researching land titles, ownership records, crown land pathways, and local zoning laws.
  • Utilise mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth) to identify viable land parcels, assess spatial constraints, and track landholder boundaries.
  • Support project teams in navigating localised planning and environmental considerations relevant to land tenure and property boundaries.

Project and Internal Coordination

  • Coordinate with internal Development and Legal teams to align landowner agreements with project timelines and development milestones.
  • Support project teams through feasibility, development, and construction handover phases by ensuring all land access conditions and community commitments are met.
  • Prepare regular reports on land acquisition progress, regional risks, community sentiment, and property negotiation milestones.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • 8+ years' experience within land access, property negotiation, agricultural relations, or community engagement (experience within renewable energy or infrastructure projects is highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience in direct landholder engagement, negotiating land agreements (access licences, leases, and easements), and working effectively within regional and rural communities.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural land use practices, farming operations, and regional community dynamics in Australia.
  • Solid understanding of land tenure frameworks, property law, and planning considerations relevant to land access.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building capability.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel frequently to regional locations.

Preferred

  • Experience within utility-scale renewable energy development (Wind, Solar, and BESS).
  • Familiarity with GIS software or spatial mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth).
  • An existing network within agricultural bodies, regional councils, or farming communities in target development states.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Property/Real Estate, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Communications, or a related discipline.

Personal Attributes

  • Influence: Ability to drive outcomes and decisions across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable operating in cross-cultural teams and collaborating across country boundaries with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Versatility: Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and detailed levels.
  • Organisation: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes.
