The Role

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated and self-confident Senior Legal Counsel supporting our fast-growing renewable energies business on a fixed term basis with a strong focus on UK, Ireland and international wind onshore, solar and BESS projects. As a Senior Legal Counsel within the Construction & Procurement Law Department you will work alongside other members of the RWE Team and closely cooperate with other support functions to deliver a holistic and streamlined service to the business of RWE Renewables. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support to our business operations in the area of renewable energy production, with a focus on delivering commercial and solution-oriented construction & procurement law advice across a mix of project-related, transactional and contractual work relevant to development, construction and operation of onshore renewable energy assets both in the UK and the EU and Australia.
  • Advise the business on other legal matters, including drafting and issuing legal opinions on construction, procurement and related issues. 
  • Be the key legal advisor handling all legal matters of RWE Renewables’ onshore renewable energy projects relating to construction, procurement and operational matters in the UK and Ireland, working alongside real estate, corporate and regulatory specialists. 
  • Provide support (including liaising with external counsel) in relation to contractual interpretation, trouble-shooting and dispute management. 
  • Drive standardisation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop non-standard, customised solutions when needed to address complex project challenges. 
  • Establish and nurture effective cross-functional and cross-cultural working relationships with legal and business colleagues in the regions of interest and the wider group. 

 

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic and a self-starter with 6+ years of experience with energy storage technology, Li-Ion batteries, systems engineering and integration
  • In addition to a successfully completed degree in England and Wales and/or Scotland law, you are qualified as a solicitor in the relevant jurisdiction (minimum 6 years’ PQE), you have gained professional experience from working in a law firm and/or company, preferably in the Energy Sector.
  • You have outstanding commercial, technical and strategic understanding as well as: 
    •  Flexibility and ability to work professionally and accurately under pressure
    •  Proven organisational, analytical and standardisation skills
    •  capability of working in a further EU-language is beneficial but not compulsory
    •  Good understanding of front-to-end processes and passion for continuous improvement
  • Personal drive, willingness to take initiative and high level of commitment and engagement, enjoy working in an international team including travel
  • Excellent clear communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective cross-functional working relationships, customer centrism, consulting skills and service- solution-oriented mindset.
