We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Engineering team at RWE offshore wind. As part of this role, you will be working within a focused, highly-skilled team of geotechnical engineers who bring deep knowledge across various fields of geotechnical engineering. Our team is globally distributed across RWE offices in locations in Japan, Germany, the UK, and Denmark, which means some international travel will be required. This global presence ensures diverse perspectives and knowledge-sharing across the organization.
You will be tasked with supporting, developing and continually improving offshore geotechnical data acquisition, interpretation and reporting. Preparation of specifications, technical tender assessment and acquired data collation and review, ensuring our surveys deliver high quality data to optimise engineering solutions. The role will be supporting the geotechnical foundation design for gravity-based foundation and also the supporting the geotechnical inputs for cable engineering.
About the role
- Perform quality control (QC) of large, diverse geotechnical datasets
- Manage projects efficiently, ensuring timely and successful delivery
- Carry out geotechnical design and support design processes
- Conduct and review geotechnical surveys and interpret survey data
- Review and critique technical reports and provide technical guidance
- Support certification activities for geotechnical projects
- Utilize and interpret geotechnical in-situ and lab test data effectively
- Have a solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation in relation to geotechnical work
- Support research and development (R&D) activities, contributing to the development of in-house geotechnical tools and their integration with structural and installation team teams
- Communicate findings to management, external stakeholders and internal packages and develop project geo risk register
- Demonstrate effective collaboration and communication within multidisciplinary teams
Job requirements and experience
- Have offshore and onshore geotechnical experience and be experienced in supporting all aspects of an offshore windfarm including HDDs, cables and foundations, design and installation
- Experience in design and installation of the gravity-based foundation for offshore wind turbine
- Familiarity in with cable engineering, cable burial risk assessment and cable burial studies
- Experience of working with integration of data sets and a familiarity of working with the international and local standards
- Hold an MSc (or equivalent) in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a solid geotechnical focus, or a related geoscience discipline. Possess Chartered status or equivalent or be working towards this
- In-depth knowledge of industry technical codes, processes, and regulations
- Familiarity with contractor-provided systems for in-situ tests and sampling, along with their pros and cons
- Understanding of laboratory testing, including both basic and advanced tests, with the ability to manage labs and develop lab testing specifications
- Experience in managing large technical datasets and be proficient with geotechnical software tools and have skills in scripting and programming
- Experience is design of the scour protections and seabed mobility studies, seabed preparation and dredging
- Experience in rock mechanics
- Demonstrated history of introducing innovative approaches to geotechnical subject
Advantageous, but not essential
- Familiarity with SQL datasets
- Experience in cloud-based solutions
