Market Risk plays a key role in controlling and supporting the trading activities of RWE Supply & Trading. This includes providing the Board with unbiased, comprehensive, accurate and timely market risk and performance information. The team also uses its knowledge and expertise to provide advice to senior management, traders, Finance and other stakeholders, through the translation of market data into value adding information. This ensures our business remains compliant and successful.

As a Risk Analyst you will be involved in a wide variety of challenging projects, supporting business growth and improving risk processes. You will be exposed to a range of product types including forwards, swaps, options, and other complex derivatives, whilst developing your understanding of various trading strategies and keeping abreast of global market news with a special focus on European Gas, LNG and Oil trading. Your responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate P&L, position and other risk reports for the desks’ trading books on a daily and monthly basis
  • Provide detailed analysis of risk measures, positions, P&L and trading strategies for senior management, finance and traders on a regular basis
  • Work with the traders to identify, quantify and communicate the market risks they carry, but also confirm that they operate within the agreed framework
  • Keep up to date with market developments and provide frequent briefings to the team and a number of stakeholders
  • Engage in analysis, valuation  and risk assessment of new markets/products/strategies
  • Work on various projects and initiatives, collaborating with other Risk teams across locations, to deliver improvements across the business
  • Support the continuous improvement of proprietary risk controls, reporting and analysis in line with business requirements

 

Your profile

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • 2-5 years’ work experience in Market Risk management of LNG, Gas or Oil
  • Understanding of commodity trading, trading lifecycle, physical asset trading instruments and/or financial asset trading instruments
  • An understanding of valuation modelling, Greeks, stress testing, VaR concepts
  • Able to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Capable of prioritising and delivering against targets in a high pressure environment
  • A strong and independent mindset, not afraid to challenge and be challenged, with a mentality of continuous improvement of existing processes
  • Able to use structured analytical approaches when tackling complex issues, with good attention to detail
  • An aptitude for thinking on your feet and finding solutions to complex problems
  • Able to build and maintain good relationships across the business, while also looking after the interests of the team

 

Advantageous, but not a must

  • Specialist commodity expertise and knowledge of the LNG market
  • Risk Management certification, e.g. FRM, PRM
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications, especially Excel and Access including VBA
  • Knowledge of specialist IT systems and software, especially OpenLink Endur 
  • Python user experience
