Windfarm Project Engineer

In this role you will provide Project Management expertise to the London Array Offshore Wind Farm Operations & Maintenance Team 

You will also contribute with safe operation, engineering health, integrity and performance of the asset, in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner, maximising the commercial benefit within legal requirements.

Provision of Project Management from initiation through to planning, execution and closure.


Principal Accountabilities

  • Working closely with the Operations Engineering team, and at times receiving technical scope from them, project manage the delivery of various work scopes, ranging from marine through to infrastructure asset management. 
  • Provide expertise to the site on project management framework and deliverables. 
  • Manage projects including Safety, Environmental, financial, contracts, contractor management and risk, 
  • Manage multidisciplinary / multidepartment activities ensuring clear communication and alignment is maintained, safeguarding safety by design alongside deliverability, project commercial drivers and other constraints.
  • Champion continuous improvement within workstreams; with a particular focus on safety, project economics, inclusion of any innovation or specific requirements.
  • Maintain robust documentation of your workstreams and any resulting decisions with supporting evidence
  • Design optimization activities: develop best practice strategy /  methodology, identify design constraints and targets, co-ordinate engineering cost modelling activities (including design studies and optimization exercises), deliver technical reviews, identify key design levers. Administrate and review inputs across disciplines of the consent project description and envelope definition.
  • Act as the bridge to the energy production and loss disciplines - provide technical review and alignment as the project develops.
  • For innovation management: manage integration of innovation workstreams, coordinate feasibility assessments, business case inputs, and documentation as required to deliver adoption decisions and drive the maximum value into projects.
  • You will strive to remain well-informed of technological innovations and practices through regular contact with other teams, projects, departments, industry and academic experts.
  • Provide operational insights into the design delivery process, ensuring known risk factors are communicated and considered as part of the development of new projects.
  • Manage relevant third-party contractors, steering works in accordance with site objectives. Develop strategic supply chain, reducing reliance in key areas.


Knowledge and skills

  • Degree from an accredited university or significant experience in relevant background (Civil, Mechanical, Ocean, Electrical, Naval, business.). 
  • Preferably a qualification in project management, with examples of projects being managed and executed. 
  • Experience in Offshore Wind, Onshore Wind, Offshore Oil and Gas, or other large complex projects.
  • Preferably or working towards Licensed Professional Engineer, or relevant experiences managing design and owners engineering teams.
  • A strong understanding of the competitive offshore wind market.
  • Experience of engineering and project system design, optimization, and cost and schedule modelling.
  • Familiar with industry codes and standards applicable to offshore wind projects.
  • Good organizational skills and experience of project management.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to innovate and challenge the status quo with a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Willing to perform relevant offshore safety trainings and “go” offshore for certain activities.
  • Fluent spoken and written in English.
  • Technical project management experience.
  • Contract management experience.
  • A record of setting up and managing assets using electronic maintenance management systems.
  • Professional registration with the Engineering Council
