RWE, a global leader in offshore wind, aims to develop floating offshore wind projects along the Portuguese coast. With 19 offshore wind farms and 3.3GW of operating capacity, RWE is the second largest offshore wind developer worldwide. As we expand, we seek a Business Development Manager to join our Portuguese team, enhancing RWE’s local capabilities in collaboration with internal and external partners. This role will focus on identifying business opportunities, managing local consents, engaging stakeholders, and developing environmental and supply chain strategies.

 

The ideal candidate should have experience in renewable energy projects, with offshore wind being a plus, and a high understanding of stakeholder engagement. Experience in renewables development in Portugal, even if gained abroad, is highly valued. Given the market’s early stage and growth potential, proactivity, creativity, and the ability to craft tailored strategies are essential. This role reports to the Country Lead Portugal and the Project Lead at a project level, with potential to coordinate additional resources.

 

About the role:

  • Support Market Strategy: Contribute to RWE’s strategy in Portugal by identifying business opportunities and supporting project development from early stages to build readiness. This includes making key contributions to the development of bidding materials for the obtention of offshore wind development rights 
  • Lead Consenting Strategy: Develop and implement consenting strategies, guide the team on permitting and regulatory requirements, and secure necessary consents, permits, and agreements with local stakeholders
  • Optimize Supply Chain: Contribute to supply chain planning, working with internal teams to maximize local content and support Portuguese industry development
  • Develop Environmental Strategy: Oversee the creation and execution of an environmental strategy tailored to Portuguese marine standards, focusing on protection and sustainability, working along internal resources and partners
  • Engage with Stakeholders: Support engagement with government, regulators, partners, and industry bodies, offering expertise on planning, permitting, and consultation responses
  • Control Contracts and Risks: Contribute to procuring contracts related to consenting, supply chain, and development, managing budgets, schedules, and risks while coordinating with partners and contractors

 

Job requirements and experience:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Finance, Law, or Business Administration
  • Professional experience in renewable energy project development; offshore wind or renewables development in Portugal is advantageous
  • In-depth understanding of Portuguese regulations, permitting processes, and requirements for renewable energy projects, including EIAs
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, subcontractors, and consultants
  • Experience managing stakeholders and addressing issues related to renewable energy development in the Portuguese market
  • Comfortable working in diverse, cross-cultural teams and collaborating internationally with a focus on inclusion
  • Comprehensive interpersonal skills and the ability to convey complex topics clearly to diverse audiences for effective decision-making
  • Native Portuguese speaker with advanced English skills; availability to travel across Portugal. Additional languages are beneficial
