Senior Electrical Engineer (Southern Europe)

RWE Renewables develops, constructs and operates renewable energy projects around the world. Due to increasing workload, we are now seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to assist us in progressing our offshore wind development projects worldwide and especially in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Greece towards construction.

The role will be based in Hamburg, Essen, Paris or other RWE-offices, although, as the project progresses, there may also be some work required at contractor/consultant locations as business/project needs dictate and some travel will be required with the role, both nationally and internationally.

 

Your future plans

The (Senior) Engineer will work for the Electrical System & Project Engineering Region 1 Team, part of the RWE Renewables’ Offshore Wind Engineering function. The Engineer will support the Project’s Consenting/Engineering and Package Managers with responsibilities including:

  • Working initially in the pre-consenting phase, the Engineer will be responsible for ensuring a robust through life design of the project’s electrical system supporting on all aspects of the HV generation and transmission system up to the Grid Interface Point
  • Helping to define consenting envelopes (for assets such as substations and cable routes) to allow projects to incorporate future technology and minimize cost of energy
  • Liaising with the Transmission System Operators (e.g. RTE)  to secure appropriate grid connection and understand related risks for projects
  • Support the definition of the main electrical system design for projects, covering all aspects of the HV system that lies within the developer’s responsibility
  • Development of specifications, subsequent TQ clarifications and ensuring specification compliance with selected consultants and contractors
  • A strong focus on interface topics, for example on the offshore platform(s)
  • Close liaison with technical experts in Offshore Engineering and Engineers in the RWE main offices in Hamburg (Germany)  and Swindon (UK) working on similar projects

 

Your profile

  • University degree or comparable graduate education in electrical power engineering
  • Good Knowledge of electrical plant including large power transformers, switchgear, onshore transmission substations, static and dynamic reactive power compensation solutions, MV/LV auxiliary systems and cables
  • Deep understanding of the grid connection process in the specific European Countries, applicable Grid Codes and local regulations relating to the electricity market
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
  • Experience in project engineering of offshore wind projects
  • Experience of liaising and negotiating with TSOs, existing working relationships are an advantage
  • Excellent communication, coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful
