As a Portfolio Engineer – Static Mechanical Team within the Biomass Engineering and Outage (E&O) unit, you are part of a dynamic team, that contributes with the reliable and permanent energy supply of our Biomass Power Plants contingent in Europe.

You provide technical expertise to the RWE Generation Biomass portfolio; supporting conceptual design and implementation of projects, plant modifications and outage scoping and delivery. You establish where appropriate, research & development requirements, safeguard long term integrity of installations and optimize day to day operations in collaboration with other E&O experts, local O&M teams and Technical Asset Leads.


Our Biomass Assets are in the Netherlands, Germany and UK, so you may have the chance to travel and be part of international teams within the role.


Your future plans


  • Developing and executing projects in different biomass power plants
  • Providing detailed technical expertise on boiler and pressure systems and associated steam equipment, including design, operation, maintenance and inspection. A working knowledge of  balance of plant (CW systems, rotating plant, tanks, valves and auxiliaries) materials handling, plant life studies, long term integrity assessments and statutory requirements.
  • Requesting inquiries for works and components and ordering in SAP
  • Removing of operational errors and clarifying the causes for steam systems and equipment
  • Supporting Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Evaluating and modernizing steam systems from the technical and economical point of view
  • Assisting in planning of budgets and tracking costs
  • Developing and implementing long-term maintenance strategies for steam systems
  • Elaborating work instructions and supervising contractors
  • Supporting in the project cycle of outage management for all major outages
  • Ensure the financial management and reporting for own engineering area according to corporate policies, processes, and format
  • Contributes to the exchange of experience and resources across RWE Generation’s technology clusters
  • Personnel administration


Your powerful skills


  • Technical academic degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or comparable).
  • Professional experience in engineering and project management / execution in the energy sector energy production industry
  • Knowledge and experience of steam raising and pressure systems in power stations
  • Focusing, targeting and building effective groups across national borders
  • Focus on fostering teamwork
  • Strong communication skills and safe behaviour at all levels
  • Enthusiasm, assertiveness and decision-making power
  • High level of self-motivation
  • Strongly developed ownership mindset
  • Willingness to travel,
  • Business fluent in English; German/Dutch beneficial or commitment to learn the language
