The Sr Solar Farm Techncian is responsible for safely installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing solar (PV) systems and Inverters to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The role supports continuous power generation by independently diagnosing and resolving technical issues, collaborating with team members, and contributing technical expertise to ongoing operations and improvement initiatives while providing organizational leadership in hazard recognition, mitigation strategies, and comprehensive energy isolation for high-criticality operations.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all Operations and Maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and procedures established for the solar farm site
  • Assist in conducting acceptance and performance tests on systems and equipment following planned maintenance or outages
  • Perform safety and other wind farm related tasks when assigned and fill in as back up to personnel at other RWE sites when necessary
  • Assist with inverter maintenance including services, major component work and replacement, and troubleshooting
  • Assist with Balance of Plant procedures as needed, including substation and collection system maintenance
  • Troubleshoot complex system and subsystem failures, applying advanced diagnostic techniques to pinpoint issues
  • Perform repairs on intricate systems and subsystems, ensuring optimal functionality and minimizing downtime
  • Assist in the development of maintenance plans to ensure systems and equipment operate smoothly and efficiently
  • Collaborate in planning maintenance schedules, optimizing resource allocation and minimizing downtime
  • Provides technical mentorship and strategic guidance across all levels of staff

 

Job Requirements and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or equivalent certificationin renewable energy technology or electrical systems preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience, including technical leadership roles within the renewable energy industry preferred
  • Involvement in leadership training or advanced certifications preferred
  • Expert-level knowledge and mastery of renewable energy systems and emerging technologies
  • Innovates and applies solutions to industry challenges, such as energy efficiency optimization, while developing industry-leading safety protocols
  • Leads incident investigations to implement corrective measures, enforcing adherence to safety standards across all projects
  • Exhibits mastery in interpreting complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics, ensuring precise execution of designs and upgrades on renewable energy systems
  • Provides organizational leadership in hazard recognition, mitigation strategies, and comprehensive energy isolation for high-criticality operations
  • Leads resolution of highly complex, high-stakes technical problems in renewable energy projects
  • Develops strategies for long-term efficiency and sustainability in plant maintenance
  • Guides the project team in adopting forward-thinking solutions for renewable energy growth
  • Serves as a liaison with external entities, including clients, regulatory bodies, and industry partners
  • Leads functional teams and organizational initiatives at renewable energy projects
  • Provides technical mentorship and strategic guidance across all levels of staff
  • Manages larger teams and oversees critical renewable energy projects
  • Operates autonomously in strategic level assignments
  • Proactively drives organizational excellence and innovation in renewable energy technologies
  • Ability to Operate the site from the Control Room and provide guidance to the technicians out in the field
  • Ability to work an on-call shift schedule
  •  Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time and work under exteme weather conditions

 

Work Environment:

  • This position is a field based role with some travel and visits to other RWEA field locations

Pay range: The hourly base salary range for this position in California is $42.08 - $56.93. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
