About the role

At RWE Supply & Trading, you’ll find a unique chance to shape the future of energy markets through advanced quantitative modelling and developer-driven innovation. Join our Quantitative Development and Modelling group - a dynamic team of developers and analysts responsible for designing and evolving the backbone of our quantitative libraries and analytics, all with direct impact on our global trading and risk management activities.

This is your opportunity to steer the architecture and direction of our growing quant infrastructure, collaborating daily with quants, traders, IT and Risk teams, and reporting into the Head of Quantitative Development and Modelling. You’ll drive meaningful change, mentor colleagues, and set the standards that ensure we stay on the cutting edge of financial engineering for energy and commodities markets.

  • Orchestrate architectural direction and act as a sparring partner in quantitative library design, collaborating closely with the Head of Quantitative Development and Modelling to ensure our infrastructure is robust, modern, and fit for the future
  • Foster the development of robust, scalable, and lean code infrastructure, prioritising reuse and extensibility.
  • Contribute hands-on to all stages of agile library development: from design to high-quality coding, code reviews, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensure model integrity and compliance, delivering continuous improvements and swift bug resolutions.
  • Enable the business by translating complex requirements into adaptable technical solutions, working side-by-side with stakeholders.
  • Inspire and mentor the Quant team, elevate technical and modelling standards, and add to our growing collective expertise.

Job requirements and experience

  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience in building, refactoring, and architecting quantitative libraries within financial or trading environments.
  • Deep expertise in quant library design, comfortable evaluating multiple methodologies and understanding their practical strengths and limitations.
  • Strong, demonstrable track record in software architecture and design within quant-driven teams.
  • Broad understanding of financial products and valuation across energy, commodities, equities and FX – with any exposure to fixed income or credit as an advantage.
  • Experience applying quantitative techniques to solve complex commercial and trading problems in a front-office context.
  • Mastery of C#, C++, and Python for the design and implementation of quant infrastructure, including support for distributed systems on Windows and Linux (containerised environments).
  • Effective collaborator with outstanding communication, mentoring and influencing skills - able to unlock value between technical and business teams.
  • Strategic mindset combined with hands-on execution, balancing quality, agility and governance in a business-critical environment.
  • Driven to build a culture based on trust, continuous improvement, and curiosity.

 Advantageous, but not essential

  • Experience integrating and supporting multi-platform environments and service-based deployments.
  • Exposure to fixed income or credit product modelling.
  • Familiarity with innovative approaches to scaling quant infrastructure in global trading operations.

What we value most is someone who continuously demonstrates courage, thrives to create impact, takes ownership and seeks to build trusting, collaborative relationships. So, even if you think you do not yet display all of the skills listed above, we would still like to hear from you.

Further, we welcome applications from individuals who may not be able to commit to full-time roles. At RWEST, finding the right person for the job is our top priority, and we are willing to explore flexible arrangements.
