Fixed Term Contract of 8 Months

Overview
The “Technical Optimization” department within Engineering leads technical optimization and provides engineering expertise to RWE Renewables Europe & Australia projects in order to increase the competitiveness and value of onshore wind, battery storage, and photovoltaic activities. The objective is to provide strategic and technological advice and to promote the optimization and innovation of new technical solutions.

 

As an experienced GIS Expert, you will ensure the continuity of GIS operations, guarantee reliable software deployments and data flows and maintain Agile coordination across projects involving GIS solutions and business systems such as GreenOS, RWE’s bespoke project management tool. This will include coordinating requirements for the internal Project Management-GIS integration programme and supporting configuration of (geo)spatial data applications. You will be part of an international back office team and working with a community of GIS specialists across RWE Renewables Europe and Australia and supporting various departments to ensure effective integration of GIS technology throughout the organization.

 

Your Tasks
Providing GIS support by direct consulting and/or WEB services

  • Supporting GIS Specialists, Engineering, Construction, and Operations on a variety of GIS-related requirements
  • Training of non-professional GIS staff in the use of the enterprise system and the required standards
  • Coordinate the companywide geospatial data management and provide advanced geospatial analytics
  • Development of interactive web applications for renewable energy projects (e.g., tools for data analysis in alignment with project-specific customer requirements)

Support development of Governance, Standards and Community

  • Drive technical GIS Governance, e.g., implement & maintain Metadata / Storage Standards
  • Establish common templates and implement a demand management process
  • Support coordination of a strong GIS Community amongst local GIS specialists

Develop and implement a GIS Roadmap

  • Collate internal best practices and secure their future improvements
  • Gather external impulses by screening the GIS market for new and promising developments
  • Drive individual Technical Innovation (R&D) initiatives that include geospatial analytics
  • For integrated GIS delivery: provide GIS Data Management & Administration, interaction with ArcGIS Enterprise & Web Services, and systems integration & data flows (GIS to Dynamics 365/Dataverse; ArcGIS Webhooks, Power Automate/REST APIs)
  • Sprint planning & capacity management, scrum facilitation, functional needs assessment, and product coordination
  • Facilitate multi-environment deployment, incident diagnosis & resolution, provide quality assurance, and technical validation
  • Support project meetings to refine needs, anticipate GIS technical requirements, and provide guidance for decision-making
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to maximize business value
  • Clarify requirements with the project team, author and refine user stories

Support of System Administration

  • License Management and Cost Control of the GIS architecture
  • Server administration and user access management
  • Security configuration and system monitoring
  • Maintenance of the backend infrastructure
  • Support GIS system administration and troubleshooting with the Central team

 

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geoinformatics, Geography, or other natural sciences and GIS-related fields (computer science, spatial planning, environmental studies) or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum practices, including sprint planning and solution deployment
  • Strong background in ESRI products, including ArcMap 10.x, ArcPro, and ArcGIS Enterprise; knowledge of other mapping products (AutoCAD, DeLorme XMap, Global Mapper, Google Earth) is a plus
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Power Automate, Forms, etc.) and Dynamics 365 / Dataverse
  • Several years of experience using GIS for processing, analysis, and visualization of spatial data, including frequent use of Python, REST APIs, SQL, and Model Builder
  • Experience in Azure DevOps (backlog & Agile tracking)
  • Good understanding of commercial implications of engineering decisions and track record in adding business value through technical capability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with management and negotiate with external stakeholders
  • Strong teamworking ability and proven integration skills within complex change management processes
  • Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally. Fluency in English is a must.
