About the role
You are a qualified lawyer with experience in sanctions & export control, you are highly motivated to drive a Compliance Management System at a global energy company forward and are looking for the next step in your career? - Lead and Innovate: You will develop, manage and enhance the governance of RWE’s internal compliance program (ICP) for sanctions & export control. This includes creating and implementing risk analyses, global policies, standards and best practices.
- Advise and collaborate: You will advise the compliance and export control community at RWE on complex transactions and processes regarding sanctions & export control matters, provide advice on sophisticated legal questions across different jurisdictions, and will collaborate with other functions such as Legal, Procurement, Finance, Tax, Security, Accounting etc. for harmonised governance across the RWE Group.
- Educate and Engage: You will design engaging training and communication activities on sanctions & export control topics for various target groups in the organization.
- Stay ahead of the curve: You will continuously monitor the statutory and regulatory sanctions & export control framework developments in key jurisdictions, derive strategic measures, actively sharing and implementing best practices to refine processes.
- Drive Digitalization for Testing and Monitoring Activities: You will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of testing and control activities in the field of sanctions & export control by integrating digital solutions. Your tasks will include identifying and implementing opportunities for automation and process improvements. Additionally, you will utilize digital tools and platforms to improve compliance monitoring, reporting, and training specifically related to sanctions and export control.
Job requirements and experience
- Expertise in Sanctions: Good knowledge of sanctions & export control laws (e.g. EU, UN, OFAC) and best practices, experience in the analysis of business processes and the design of compliance frameworks.
- Extensive Compliance Experience: Relevant Compliance experience at an industrial company, a bank, law firm or supervisory authority with experience in sanctions & export control advisory.
- Passion for Legal and Geopolitical Challenges: Enthusiastic about navigating complex, conflicting, and rapidly changing legal regimes and understanding geopolitical dynamics.
- Proactive and Innovative: Driven to elevate a Compliance Management System (CMS) to the next level, working effectively with cross-functional teams to develop creative and pragmatic solutions.
- Integrity and Teamwork: A team player with a high level of integrity and reliability, capable of proactively managing risks and possessing exceptional communication skills in both English and German.
- Educational Background: Qualified lawyer with an above-average result.
Advantageous, but not essential
- You have an affinity for IT.
- Experience in the assessment and classification of goods and technologies in accordance with international export control regulations (German export list, EU dual-use etc.).
