Your responsibilities

The Hydro & Storage Division at RWE monitors and operates RWE’s portfolio of Pumped Storage and Run-of-river sites, as well as the now growing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As part of the Team Electrical in the Engineering and Outage department (E&O) you will be leading and supporting projects with focus on -but not limited to- battery storage systems within the electrical engineering scope for current and future BESS, as well as their integration in various RWE sites.
You will be expected to work in close collaboration with the local O&M teams, the designated Battery Project Lead and Asset Management. You will be reporting to the Head of Team Electrical of Hydro & Storage Engineering and Outage.

  • Support the development of battery storage projects in cooperation with the dedicated project team from concept to commissioning and handover, by providing engineering support and promote innovation in this field
  • Coordination of responsibilities for each involved party and stakeholders and define technical requirements from the operative view
  • Work hand-in-hand with our operational teams and Asset Management to achieve best operation in each storage asset
  • Engineering support during Operation & Maintenance (O&M) activities
  • Ensure that the BESS design is compliant to existing systems (if applicable)
  • Design review to guarantee electrical and process safety, as well as compliance to the grid code and standards
  • Ensure quality of as-built documentation, equipment manuals and integration of necessary systems (e.g. SAP)
  • Plan and execute major overhauls of battery storage systems and provide technical assessment for the best performance and safe operation of the BESS
  • Sound knowledge in IGBT inverters for battery storage systems and their compliance with grid code requirements
  • Participate in internal/ external expert work groups around battery storage topics with either other RWE companies/divisions/ departments and/or associations and promote knowledge exchange in the field of electrical engineering
  • Encourage innovative approaches to technical issues and adopt industry best practice
  • Promote international and collaborative project approach

 

Your profile

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of LV,MV systems, I&C as well as of automation systems, including SLD verification and electrical design review
  • Sound knowledge of BESS design, construction and operation
  • Great customer and contractor management skills
  • Demonstration of complex thinking skills, including both analytical and conceptual skills and ability to communicate ideas into different target groups
  • High level of commitment, enthusiasm and team-oriented working style
  • Willingness to travel (nationally and internationally)
  • Business fluent in German and very good English level
  • Agility with MS Office, SAP and network/ system simulation tools
  • Flexible, intercultural sensitive and modern working style
  • Entrepreneurial working style/ growth mindset

Advantageous, but not a must

  • First-hand experience with operation of industrial BESS
  • Experience with KKS and RDS-PP naming systems for power plants
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current norms, standards and regulations for BESS and electrical systems
