Are you looking for a career in offshore wind energy? As an offshore wind turbine technician you’ll have an important role in the operations & maintenance of our turbines. You will follow a 1-year training program that will consist of formal training and gaining work experience on an operational offshore wind farm. After that, you’ll be ready to start working as an offshore wind technician on the 53 turbines of the OranjeWind wind farm, the largest operational wind turbines in the world! 

 

RWE is currently building the OranjeWind offshore wind farm in the Netherlands, 85 kilometers off the coast of Den Helder with a capacity of 795 MW. It will feature the latest in wind turbine technology, using the Vestas V236 15MW turbines. The windfarm will see first power in 2027. 

 

We are looking for a significant number of technicians and will be conducting interviews on an ongoing basis. We are not only looking for experienced professionals, but also for motivated people in their early careers. We also welcome applicants with (technical) experience from other industries, interested in a career change into renewables.

 

 

About the role 

 

  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of the wind turbines 

  • Perform turbine component replacements and repairs 

  • Carry out periodic service inspections 

  • Perform troubleshooting and fault finding 

  • Perform electrical work incl. switching (high and/or low voltage) 

  • Work with mechanical, hydraulic or electrical systems 

  • Work with maintenance support systems (condition monitoring, (remote) turbine control, work order management, etc) to log work and spare parts use 

  • Support with modifications, retrofits and main component exchanges 

 

Your full first year will focus on training and on the job learning with our turbine manufacturer. During this period you are fully paid. Travel is required, including gaining work experience on another, existing offshore wind farm. These will be in or close to the Netherlands. After this first year, the OranjeWind wind farm will be operational and you’ll be ready to start your work as a fully trained wind turbine technician. You’ll work offshore in a shift system, based on a Service Operation Vessel (SOV). The SOV team will work 14 days on and 14 days off and mobilise from the port of Den Helder. 

 

 

Job requirements and experience 

 

  • Completed education in mechanical / electrical engineering or similar (MBO 4 or equivalent)

  • Open to both early-career and experienced professionals - whether your experience comes from offshore wind or other industries, we value diverse backgrounds and transferable skills. 

  • Good knowledge of the English language (both oral and written) 

  • Strong focus on Health and Safety 

  • Ability to work constructively and positively as a team player with good communication skills. 

  • Advanced problem-solving abilities 

  • Good health and fitness to work in an offshore environment including working at height  

  • Must be eligible to work in the Netherlands
