RWESTA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Commercial Asset Optimization team as an US short-term portfolio manager/trader. This role will be based in Chicago. You are responsible for identifying, modelling and quantifying all commodity-related market price risks of RWE Renewables Americas' electricity production. You will analyze risk positions and propose means to hedge them efficiently and carry out value-maximizing trading strategies. Externalizing risks in wholesale and OTC markets is also part of your daily routine. We are offering you the possibility of developing and building asset management solutions in a dedicated trading environment. Responsibilities: 

  • Identify and quantify all commodity-related market price risks of RWE's renewables portfolio
  • Develop and optimize the daily trading activities for RWE Renewables in US with focus markets ERCOT, NYISO, NE, SPP, PJM, MISO and CAISO in the short-term tenor, i.e. prompt up to month-ahead
  • Identify risks and chances in power markets by means of e.g. statistical analyses and fundamental models 
  • Capture those opportunities by actively trading in energy markets
  • Backtesting of existing methods and evaluation models including processing of large data sets (Experience in model development and validation process)
  • Develop and operate short-term optimization strategies for integrated wind, solar and battery portfolio (e.g. battery dispatch algorithms)
  • Develop and apply methods on price forecasting 
  • Create efficient and user-friendly products/processes that are stable and automated like summarizing model outputs and KPI’s

 
 
Your powerful skills
 

  • University degree in Mathematics, Economics, (Electrical) Engineering or related field
  • 2+ years trading experience or work in close collaboration with a trading desk, ideally focused on ERCOT
  • You have an analytical mindset. You are able to understand and communicate complex ideas to colleagues and management.
  • Your high motivation enables you to familiarize yourself quickly with the relevant topics and issues in our group. You are excited to work your way into any less familiar field.
  • You can work in a fast-paced environment, you are open to discussions and feedback and can adjust your work accordingly.
  • Experience in programming Python and SQL. Should be a proficient user capable of data wrangling, data processing, visualization, statistical analysis and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of trade management systems such as Endur is a plus
