Your future plans

As a Short-Term Gas Trader, you will play a key role in managing and optimizing RWE’s natural gas positions across North American markets. You will operate at the intersection of market fundamentals, trading, scheduling and risk management, using your understanding of physical and financial gas markets to identify opportunities and manage exposures in rapidly changing market conditions on the DA markets until RT.

In this high-visibility role, you will monitor market developments, assess supply and demand fundamentals, and actively manage short-term gas positions across key U.S. and Canadian hubs. You will work closely with scheduling, origination, analytics and power trading teams to optimize physical flows, respond to changing system conditions and maximize commercial value while maintaining disciplined risk management.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Actively trade and optimize short-term natural gas positions across North American markets, including physical and financial transactions
  • Identify and execute short-term trading opportunities across prompt, day-ahead and intra-day markets
  • Work closely with power traders and commercial teams to understand cross-commodity interactions and optimize gas positions in response to changes in power market conditions
  • Monitor pipeline constraints, operational conditions, maintenance, capacity availability and other events that may create trading and optimization opportunities
  • Manage trading exposures within established risk limits and contribute to P&L performance through disciplined position management and execution
  • Contribute to the development of trading analytics, dashboards and tools that improve market visibility, position management and short-term optimization

 

Your powerful skills

  • 3+ years of experience in natural gas trading, physical gas trading, gas scheduling, origination, optimization or a closely related commercial role
  • Strong understanding of U.S. natural gas markets, including major hubs, regional basis dynamics, pipeline systems and physical market mechanics
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between natural gas and power markets, with the ability to incorporate cross-commodity fundamentals into trading decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze short-term market fundamentals and translate market information into actionable trading decisions
  • Hands-on experience with physical gas positions, scheduling, nominations, balancing and/or pipeline operations
  • Experience with market data and analytics platforms such as Genscape, Enverus, BTU Analytics, NGI or comparable tools
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Python, SQL, Power BI or similar tools is a plus
  • Ability to make sound decisions under time pressure and adapt quickly to changing market conditions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across trading, scheduling, analytics, origination and risk management teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Business or a related field
