The Project M&A team at RWE Clean Energy supports the company’s growth strategy by leading both the acquisition and monetization of utility-scale onshore wind, solar, and storage assets and portfolios across the U.S. and Canada. The team is responsible for sourcing and executing M&A transactions, as well as structuring and leading cash-equity partnerships, divestments, and other strategic capital-recycling initiatives for the company’s development, in-construction, and operating portfolio.

 

The ideal candidate for the Project M&A Utility-scale Associate has experience modeling renewable energy project financials, a creative problem-solving mindset, and the ability to efficiently manage multiple priorities all while keeping the "big picture" of RWE's best interests in mind. 

 

This position reports directly to the Director of Project M&A Utility Scale, North America for RWE Clean Energy.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support transaction execution for acquisition and divestment processes by coordinating assigned workstreams, organizing due diligence materials, and tracking key deliverables and timelines under the direction of senior team members
  • Assist with internal transaction approval processes by compiling required analyses and documentation, coordinating inputs from internal stakeholders, and supporting communication to enable timely reviews and approvals
  • Build, update, and maintain financial models to support valuation of renewable energy acquisitions and divestments, including running sensitivities, updating assumptions, and reviewing third-party models as directed
  • Provide day-to-day coordination support with internal teams and external counterparties by managing information flow, scheduling, and follow-ups related to transaction execution
  • Coordinate cross-functional inputs across RWE business functions, including development, finance, legal, engineering, and other internal teams, to ensure diligence findings, assumptions, and analyses are accurately reflected in transaction materials
  • Prepare draft presentation materials and analyses for internal committees and external counterparties, summarizing financial results, risks, mitigants, and key considerations under guidance from senior team members
  • Support ad hoc analytical and operational tasks related to transactions or portfolio initiatives, including special analyses, data compilation, or process support as needed
  • Conduct market and industry research by tracking transaction activity, pricing benchmarks, and sector developments, and summarizing findings for use by the broader team
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives by following established templates, tools, and workflows, and providing feedback or suggestions to improve efficiency, accuracy, or consistency
  • Maintain transaction documentation and data organization, including managing virtual data rooms, version control, and issue tracking to support diligence execution and team workflows

 

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required) with background in business, finance, accounting, tax or an analytical/quantitative field strongly preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience in investment banking, project finance, renewable energy development, infrastructure investing, or a related transaction-oriented or consulting role
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining financial models and investment presentation materials (e.g., Excel and PowerPoint) in support of transaction analysis or investment decisions
  • Foundational understanding of renewable energy project economics and valuation concepts, including cash-flow–based valuation methods and key commercial drivers
  • Exposure to transaction-based processes, such as M&A, debt financing, tax equity, or similar capital markets or project finance workstreams
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to apply established frameworks, follow instructions, and produce accurate analyses in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear and effective communicator, with strong written and presentation skills and the ability to tailor outputs for internal review by senior stakeholders
  • Collaborative team player who can work independently on assigned tasks while contributing effectively within cross-functional teams
  • High motivation and adaptability, with comfort operating in a dynamic, international business environment and working with diverse teams and perspectives

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $82,000 - $110,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
