Chicago, IL, US, 60654
RWE Americas, LLC
To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent
Functional area: Finance / Controlling
Remuneration: Exempt
The Investment & Valuation Associate will be a key member of the Investment & Valuation (I&V) team at RWE Americas (RWEA), delivering the analysis that underpins the company's strong US growth ambitions. Supporting valuation assignments and contributing to investment recommendations, the Associate will build stakeholder relationships across key functions and gain broad exposure across solar, wind, and battery storage. The I&V team drives value-added growth through critical analysis, strategic guidance, and rigorous governance across a growing pipeline of utility-scale renewable energy investments, supporting approximately $20 billion in planned US investment over the next six years. It is an ideal role for a candidate looking to build foundational market expertise while developing depth in project finance and bridging technical and financial perspectives. The team evaluates performance on what is delivered and how, expecting its members to take smart risks, deliver meaningful impact, and collaborate actively across functions.
Role Responsibilities:
- Investment Analysis, Valuation & Structuring: Develops analyses of investment opportunities and communicates results clearly, owning discrete analytical tasks and modeling deliverables across solar, wind, and battery storage investments under the guidance of senior team members.
- Decision Process & Materials: Drafts sections of investment memos and synthesizes analytical inputs in line with agreed scope and priorities, supporting the preparation of decision materials for senior management.
- Stakeholder Leadership & Alignment: Collaborates across the I&V team and coordinates inputs from development, commercial, and technical functions to gather and validate project data and insights, communicating clearly and adapting to audience. Supports internal reviews and helps clarify scope and priorities with stakeholders.
- Model Quality & Governance: Proposes improvements to financial models and templates to support consistent scoping and effort levels. Performs peer reviews and quality checks on financial models and analytical outputs.
- Process & Tools Improvement: Supports the identification and implementation of improvements to investment processes and financial models, including exploring the use of advanced digital tools.
Job Requirements and Experiences:
- Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or similar university degree required
- Minimum 1 year experience in Finance roles required
- Proficiency in Excel; able to run existing financial models, scenarios, and sensitivities with guidance
- Foundational knowledge of valuation methodologies, especially DCF
- Communication and presentation skills
- Interest in renewable energy or energy markets
- Knowledge & Application: Builds and updates financial models with growing fluency, applying valuation frameworks accurately and beginning to tailor approaches to specific project contexts. Understands the key valuation levers and basic assumptions that drive value, including capex, offtake pricing and terms.
- Complexity & Problem Solving: Performs standard scenario analysis and begins identifying valuation sensitivities and potential optimizations. Independently completes assigned tasks, proactively surfacing input gaps and suggesting resolutions rather than waiting for direction.
- Collaboration & Interaction: Coordinates inputs from cross-functional teams and communicates clearly, adapting based on audience. Contributes constructively to discussions with development, commercial, and technical functions.
- Scope & Ownership: Takes ownership of discrete parts of valuation workstreams and contributes to internal improvement efforts. May provide informal guidance to interns or analysts on well-scoped tasks.
