The Day Ahead Trader will join a dynamic team focused on optimizing returns for RWE’s growing portfolio of generating assets. Our trading activities are focused around various ISOs across the US (e.g. ERCOT, NYISO, SPP, MISO, PJM). This new role is a key part of our expanding Short-Term asset optimization team and is based in downtown Chicago.
Your role is to primarily execute trading strategies in multiple US power markets, develop and maintain our models, and to deploy trading capital to make profitable decisions. You will be managing, optimizing and maximizing the day-ahead revenues for our assets in the US – Responsible for ISO trades at the HB and Nodal level, in close cooperation with the Congestion team. Furthermore, you will closely work with a fast growing team of energy trading professionals from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ISO trades at the HB and Nodal level (PTPs, Incs/Decs, Energy Only Offers, Three-Part Offers, etc)
- Analyze and formulate opinions about short-term market risks and opportunities to take positions in the Day-ahead market
- Apply our fundamental market models to test and derive your trading strategy
- Determine offer and bid prices for the Day-Ahead markets, and occasionally negotiate the sale or purchase of power to enhance profitability and resource utilization
- Maximize the value of generation resources through strategic purchases and sales of energy while adhering to the company’s overall strategies and established parameters.
- Monitor the dispatch of generating assets and provide necessary assistance
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with our fundamental market experts and various other experts across the group
- Build-up performance dashboards and automate workflows to streamline our daily trading routine
- Possibility of weekend and holiday coverage.
Your powerful skills
- University degree in Mathematics, Economics, (Electrical) Engineering or related field
- Experience in energy/gas trading environment with experience in PJM, ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, ISO-NE, or SPP nodal markets.
- Experience with Yes Energy, Dayzer, EMS, ETRM, and bid-to-bill software is required.
- Understanding of commercial optimization of wind and solar energy facilities, electric transmission, thermal generation, gas transportation, along with forecasting methods.
- Demonstrate a self-confident natural behavior and be comfortable to handle uncertain (market) situations
- Excellent analytical mindset, striving for optimization and performance
- Strong team player & excellent communicator with a high degree of personal commitment, motivation and the ability to work independently
- Proven capability to handle multiple tasks effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Reliability and accountability in meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python is highly desirable.
