The Solar Farm Technician II performs preventative and corrective maintenance for all scopes of an operating power plant, including civil, mechanical, and electrical inspection and repair.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and by site operating procedures
  • Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation that is required to conduct inspection, maintenance, and repairs in a safe manner
  • Proactively look for improvement opportunities to job job-appropriate processes and procedures
  • Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
  • Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where appropriate
  • Perform electrical testing as necessary, including insulation and thermal testing
  • Document all work and generate reports as necessary
  • Use Microsoft Office for communication, presentation, and documentation
  • Use computer software in support of maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
  • At times, may assist with BOP activities
  • Respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Ensure site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections are performed by site protocols
  • Interface with any 3rd party contractors working at our facilities
  • Available to respond to nontraditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues, including emergent abnormal operating conditions, execution of maintenance, tracking work orders, resolution of O&M issues
  • Operate mobile equipment, including mowers, forklifts, tractors, excavators, and motor vehicles
  • Professionally represent the company with contractor and vendor relations, as well as during partnership opportunities within the community
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • An associate degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited US school other than correspondence or internet is preferred
  • NABCEP Certification or Electrical License preferred
  • An unrestricted driver's license in good standing required
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience as a maintenance electrician (commercial or industrial), or 4 years of experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician performing electrical work on operating equipment, or two years experience in operations and maintenance of power generation, transmission, or distribution
  • Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in solar O&M
  • Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance; substation maintenance
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
  • Must be competent in electrical safety
  • Must be competent in understanding the NEC
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and evolving schedules
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
  • Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Frequent oral and written communications
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
  • First aid/CPR/AED
  • OSHA Certified
  • Shift work
  • Must be trainable
  • Must be adaptive to new technologies and methods
  • Must take ownership of responsibilities and look beyond the work task concerning discovering new opportunities for corrective work
  • Must communicate verbally and orally at an extremely high level

 

Work Environment:

This position is a field-based role that involves some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations
