RWE Renewables develops, constructs and operates renewable energy projects around the world, and is the second largest offshore wind company globally.  Our US business has developed a robust offshore wind project pipeline and is therefore uniquely positioned to drive the energy transition forward domestically, as well as to play a leading role in the sector at an international level.

Due to increasing workload, we are now seeking a Senior Cable Engineer to assist us in progressing many of our offshore wind projects in the US.

 

 

Your role

As Senior Cable Engineer you will be part of an Engineering team providing expertise in offshore wind projects, with a focus on inter-array and export cables (offshore and onshore). The role consists of both project independent high end modelling and simulation tasks, and Project engineering work. You will have particular responsibility for:

  • Technical expertise for HV and MV cable systems and their simulation
  • Simulation and modelling of cables in the relevant environments with FEM software
  • Development of internal tools and procedures to simulate and optimise cable designs
  • Support to RCAs in case of component failures
  • Preparation and review of technical documentation and involvement in the related tender, contract and procurement process for our projects
  • Technical management of related electrical works on project construction sites
  • Technical lead in supplier and product prequalification process and factory audits
  • Application and further development of relevant internal and external standards and regulations
  • Project reporting and development of processes and procedures

 

You will need a hands on approach to Engineering and be expected to work closely with other package teams within the Projects and in the line organisation, and in particular have involvement with and provide support for the development of the wider electrical systems’ optimisation with focus on cables.

 

 

Your key tasks and responsibilities

The role will sit in RWE Renewables’ Electrical Components Team supporting both project independent development initiatives and Offshore Wind projects, with responsibilities including:

  • Modelling and simulation of the relevant scenarios and cable locations (e.g. hot spots)
  • Ensuring a robust and optimised through life design of the Project’s electrical system supporting on all aspects of the HV and MV cable systems
  • Development of specifications, subsequent TQ clarifications and ensuring specification compliance with selected consultants and contractors
  • A strong focus on safety through design and through life performance of the assets
  • Supporting the progression of the Project’s electrical system design, procurement and project management of the cables systems’ component parts in liaison with the Lead Electrical Engineer
  • Close liaison with technical experts in the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Department and Engineers working on similar projects to ensure knowledge is effectively utilised on the projects
  • Training and mentoring of electrical engineers
  • Co-ordination and management of interfaces with other major construction packages, such as substations and foundations, in co-operation with other Engineers and Package Managers

 

 

Essential skill requirements:

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or relevant background, Master degree preferred
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Significant expertise in the modelling and simulation of cables
  • Several years of relevant work experience as a component specialist for cables
  • High-end expertise regarding simulation of cables, rating, design and testing – the optimum would be work experience gained within a manufacturer or an Offshore Wind Developer
  • Relevant experience regarding related project work, especially in the fields of technical specification writing and negotiations
  • Fluent English language skills

 

 

Desirable skills:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer, or relevant experiences managing design and owners engineering teams
  • Experience in Offshore Wind, Onshore Wind, Onshore Solar, Offshore Oil and Gas, or other large engineering infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrable experience of working effectively in an international business
  • Renewable energy/offshore wind farm experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working effectively in an international business
  • Excellent communication, coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful
  • Valid driving license
