About the role

As a Commodity Analyst, you possess a comprehensive understanding of commodity market fundamentals in terms of supply, demand, pricing and policy dynamics.

Your timely and high-quality analyses enhance our existing analytical framework and contribute directly to our trading decisions. You regularly communicate findings to the trading and analysis team, optimizing results and identifying opportunities for improvements.

 

In particular, your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting in-depth analysis of supply and demand balance to generate insights into pricing mechanisms, arbitrage relationships and market dynamics.
  • Monitoring market news, regulatory developments and policy changes, and assessing their implications for relevant markets and trading strategies.
  • Applying analytical and quantitative techniques to evaluate market trends, historical relationships and potential trading opportunities.
  • Presenting analysis-backed insights in a clear, structured, and visually compelling format using data visualization tools.
  • Proactively identifying, sourcing, and validating new datasets from multiple sources and formats, while working with internal IT teams to ensure robust integration into internal systems.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective network of industry contacts to strengthen market intelligence and enhance analytical views.
  • Supporting the development and improvement of existing market modelling and visualization dashboard.

 

Job requirements and experience

  • Working knowledge of one or more commodities (Grains knowledge such as soybean is advantageous)
  • Relevant experience of fundamental modeling in a trading environment (Physical knowledge is advantageous)
  • A university degree in Economics, Finance, Energy, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience working with large datasets and interfacing with databases.
  • Strong economic understanding combined with robust quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Proven expertise in programming and model development to deliver high-quality analyses and develop well-structured code that enhances analytical and trading activities (e.g., Python ,SQL).
  • Excellent IT skills in the MS Windows environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge between analysis and trading with an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Language skills: fluent in English; proficiency in Mandarin.
  • Strong team player with a high level of self-motivation and flexibility, capable of working in a trading environment and meeting tight deadlines.

 

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Grains knowledge, such as soybeans, is advantageous
  • Physical market experience or knowledge is advantageous
