The Vice President, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Procurement is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing, category management, supplier relationship management, and procurement operations activities that support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the company's renewable energy portfolio. This role develops and executes procurement strategies that optimize total cost of ownership, mitigate supply chain risks, improve supplier performance, and drive value creation across all O&M spend categories. The position serves as a key business partner to Operations, Maintenance, Inventory Management, Engineering, and other stakeholders, ensuring procurement activities are aligned with organizational objectives, operational priorities, and long-term growth plans while fostering a high-performing procurement organization focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

 

Role Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop and execute the O&M Procurement strategy aligned with company objectives, operational priorities, and long-term portfolio growth plans.
  • Lead the optimization of procurement category strategies across all O&M spend areas to improve cost, quality, service, and supplier performance.
  • Establish and maintain strategic supplier partnerships that drive innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable value creation.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Inventory Management, Finance, and Legal stakeholders to ensure procurement activities support business objectives.
  • Drive enterprise-wide sourcing initiatives and supplier consolidation opportunities to maximize purchasing leverage and commercial value.
  • Lead procurement transformation initiatives, including organizational design, process improvement, digitalization, and capability development.
  • Develop governance frameworks, procurement policies, and performance metrics to ensure compliance, accountability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Oversee contract strategy and negotiation activities for high-value, complex, and business-critical supplier agreements.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through proactive supplier management, contingency planning, and market intelligence.
  • Analyze spend data and market trends to identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and value generation.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop annual budgets, cost forecasts, savings targets, and procurement performance objectives.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement organization focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and executive business reviews to ensure suppliers meet contractual, operational, and safety expectations.

 

Job Requirements and Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Minimum 15 years overall experience required, with 10 yrs in a global Procurement function preferred 
  • Deep knowledge of strategic sourcing, category management, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute procurement strategies that align with business objectives and deliver measurable value.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost modeling, business case development, and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain, commercial, and operational risks.
  • Experience leading organizational transformation, change management initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to build and lead high-performing teams through coaching, talent development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Experience managing complex supplier portfolios and driving supplier performance through strategic partnerships and governance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills with the ability to translate insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Inventory Management, and Executive Leadership.
  • Knowledge of procurement systems, spend analytics tools, ERP platforms, and digital procurement solutions.
  • Ability to lead multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced, evolving business environment.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Understanding of renewable energy operations, maintenance practices, and asset management principles.
  • Experience driving procurement standardization, process optimization, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Ability to establish key performance indicators (KPIs), governance processes, and accountability frameworks to monitor organizational performance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, ethics, compliance, and sustainability principles in supplier and procurement decisions.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate complex topics to senior leadership and executive audiences.
  • Must be able to travel at a minimum 25% of the time to visit sites, other RWE offices and suppliers

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois and New York is $225,000 - $285,000 . The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.

 

Location: Please note that these roles are currently expected to be in-office hybrid positions based in Austin, Chicago, or White Plains, as those are the team's primary locations, unless a different location is specified in the job posting.
