Your future plans

The energy transition is not waiting. Renewable energy, battery storage, data centers, electrification, and new load growth are all pushing the U.S. transmission grid harder than ever before. Every project now depends on one critical question: can the grid actually deliver it?

RWE is seeking a Senior Transmission Engineer / Transmission Manager to join the Transmission Analysis team and help answer that question. This role will support transmission, interconnection, deliverability, transmission service, and market-facing project development activities across the Eastern Interconnection, with an initial focus on MISO and additional support for SPP, PJM, NYISO, and SERC as needed.

The ideal candidate will bring strong steady-state power-flow analysis skills, hands-on transmission or interconnection study experience, and the ability to translate complex technical results into clear project and business implications. The role will help strengthen internal technical capability, improve study quality, reduce reliance on external consultants, and support faster, better-informed decisions as project workload and ISO/RTO requirements continue to evolve.

This is also an opportunity to modernize how transmission analysis is performed. The right candidate will help improve repeatable workflows, automate manual study tasks, validate assumptions, challenge results, and contribute to a more scalable internal study platform. The final title and level will be determined based on experience and capabilities. Candidates may be considered for either a Senior Transmission Engineer or Transmission Manager role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform transmission and interconnection studies to support project development, queue strategy, risk assessment, and commercial decision-making.
  • Support MISO-related project work, including interconnection application packages, deficiency responses, benchmarking models, consultant coordination, model review, and validation of study assumptions and results.
  • Conduct or support Transmission Service Request studies related to NRIS needs, battery charging, deliverability, and other project-specific transmission service requirements.
  • Perform steady-state power-flow analysis, contingency analysis, transfer capability studies, limited operation studies, material modification analysis, and related technical assessments.
  • Review and validate power-flow models, basecase assumptions, contingency definitions, monitored elements, dispatch assumptions, topology assumptions, and study outputs.
  • Identify transmission risks, study issues, network upgrade drivers, deliverability constraints, curtailment exposure, and practical mitigation options.
  • Support congestion and deliverability screening, including ILTTR, FTR, TSR, basis-risk, and other market-relevant transmission analyses where applicable.
  • Develop, maintain, or support automation scripts and repeatable workflows for model processing, data analysis, quality checks, result validation, and reporting.
  • Review consultant deliverables for technical quality, consistency, assumptions, and alignment with ISO/RTO requirements.
  • Track ISO/RTO process changes, application requirements, study assumptions, tariff updates, stakeholder initiatives, and market rules relevant to interconnection, TSR, deliverability, and transmission planning.

Your powerful skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Approximately 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in power-system studies, transmission planning, interconnection studies, or related technical analysis. Candidates with stronger experience may be considered for a Transmission Manager-level role.
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO interconnection processes, transmission planning studies, generator interconnection requirements, or transmission service concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with steady-state power-flow analysis and contingency analysis.
  • Experience using at least one major power-system analysis tool, such as TARA, PSS/E, Power World, ASPEN, or similar software.
  • Ability to review technical study results, identify potential issues, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with changing ISO/RTO requirements, project deadlines, and business priorities.
  • Willingness to improve existing processes rather than only execute routine tasks.

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Master’s degree or PhD in power systems or a related technical field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in one or more states.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, VBA, or other programming tools used for automation, data analysis, model processing, or reporting.
  • Interest in applying AI-assisted workflows, coding tools, and automation to improve study efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Previous working experience with ISOs and/or developers
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new markets, tools, study methodologies, and ISO/RTO rules.
  • Experience participating in ISO/RTO stakeholder processes, technical working groups, or grid code reform discussions.

What we value most is technical curiosity, ownership, willingness to learn, and a resilient, collaborative work ethic. Even if you do not meet every requirement listed above, we would still like to hear from you.
