Sr Engineer I, SCADA Operations

Seeking a proactive and customer-focused Tier 1 SCADA Specialist to serve as the first point of contact for technical support requests. In this role, you will triage incoming issues, resolve what you can at the first level, and escalate more complex problems to the appropriate team members. You will play a key role in maintaining clear, professional communication with both the requestors

 

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the engineering of plant control systems across multiple concurrent projects and technologies
  • Serve as project lead for complex commissioning activities, including integrations with multiple vendors and utilities
  • Design and validate failover, redundancy, and cybersecurity features within GMS/EMS infrastructure
  • Lead operational troubleshooting of systemic or repeating plant controls issues; work cross-functionally to resolve root causes
  • Interface with regulatory and compliance teams to validate and document technical controls for NERC CIP
  • Participate in standards development for screen layout, alarm logic, and data point naming conventions
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to training materials and best practice documents
  • Knowledge & Application: Expert in multi-site plant controls design, failover architectures, and control system logic; leads standardization initiatives
  • Complexity & Problem Solving: Solves high-complexity technical problems and systemic plant control performance issues; owns resolution plans
  • Collaboration & Interaction: Leads cross-functional teams and collaborates with compliance, operations, and vendors
  • Scope of Management & Supervision​: Mentors junior engineers and may lead commissioning or incident response teams

 

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience is required
  • Knowledge of Generation Management monarch or similar EMS Products
  • SCADA Systems: GE, Vestas, SGRE, Ovation, Wonderware, Rockwell, Monarch, etc.
  • Basic understanding of SEL equipment and substations
  • Knowledge of basic networking and topologies
  • Knowledge of using/managing ticketing systems such as Jira, ServiceNow, etc.
  • Data visualization and reporting capabilities
  • Understanding of energy management strategies
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems (preferred)
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.).
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space.
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership and communication, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to multitask while working independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
  • Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable
  • Is detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts

 

Work Environment: 

This position is an office-based role with 15% travel and visits to other RWEA offices and field locations.  The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
