Position Overview

As Project Engineer, you will be working within the Global Storage Engineering, System Integration Team, responsible for the coordination and completion of work packages in the scope of GSE Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

You will contribute to multiple projects in parallel, in a challenging yet rewarding environment. You have an entrepreneurial mindset, experience with relevant technology, knowledge of standards, norms and processes, where you will apply this to your daily work. Your stakeholders include talented engineers of all kinds, software developers, best in class vendors and suppliers, developers, project managers, consultants and more.

You will have the opportunity contribute over the entire life cycle of major, impactful utility scale renewable energy projects, from development, engineering, construction, commissioning and handover to operations for projects around the world.

Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Drive project engineering activities to deliver competitive, optimized design decisions and project outcomes within the GSE scope of works, including detailed design, construction activities and support, reporting, problem solving
  • Coordinate and execute multidisciplinary engineering and project activities ensuring clear communication and alignment between internal and external workstreams, ensuring safety as a priority, to the right level of quality and within budget
  • Support the development, procurement and construction processes of projects by coordinating and / or writing technical and construction specifications, scope of work documentation, generating schematics and diagrams, support technical bid evaluation
  • Ensure the detailed electrical, communication and electromechanical design and IFC (Issue For Construction) drawings and documentation comply with electrical codes, utility standards and plant requirements
  • Maintain robust documentation of the work packages and workstreams using available collaboration tools
  • Play an active role in process development and continuous improvement in Project Engineering, including optimization of ways of working
  • Perform site visits during construction and commissioning
  • Support plant commissioning both onsite and remote



  • Deep passion for decarbonization of the global electricity grid
  • Eager to develop with and work within a global, diverse team and embody RWE core values
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical, mechatronics or mechanical engineering or in a similar field of engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in the renewable power and/or power and/or transmission industries, including managing technical details, proactively solving problems, and mitigating risks and issues that may impact the project schedule and budget
  • Proven experience in leading, supporting or contributing to the delivery of OEM scope of supply, EPC or construction scope of works for renewables or power generation projects (client or supplier side)
  • Familiarity with top tier battery suppliers, DC/AC, DC/DC power conversion systems, automation controllers, communications devices, transformers, protection devices and/or medium voltage switchgear
  • The following are a big plus but not a requirement:
    • Experience in compliance with electrical and utility grid codes
    • Familiarity with Agile methodology, business process mapping, task management and software tools for collaboration and improving work efficiency
    • Strong knowledge of energy storage projects and industry trends with primary focus on batteries, storage and related solutions.
    • Familiarity with EPLAN
