RWE Americas seeks a highly skilled and motivated HSSE Manager, with a focus on RWEA’s Management System Cycle (MSC). The HSSE Excellence Manager – MSC will be the owner of the HSSE Management System Cycle for RWEA. This role oversees the design, implementation, coordination, annual review, and continuous improvement of the HSSE Management System to ensure risks are systematically identified, processes are prioritized and periodically reviewed, safeguards are effective, Leadership meetings are routinely and effectively facilitated, the HSSE Plan is updated and frequently communicated to the organization, and HSSE Objectives are achieved through risk-based and data-driven management of HSSE activities

 

The individual in this role must possess demonstrable knowledge, skills, experience, and interpersonal abilities directly related to the North American renewable energy industry, and the motivation and interest to promote the continual improvement of HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment).

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and maintains the RWEA HSSE Management System, ensuring it remains aligned with HSSE objectives, legal/HSSE requirements, and corporate standards
  • Owns and directs the Management System Cycle reviews, including:  establish/validate objectives, conduct assessment, develop plan, execute & review for HSSE, ensuring it is applied rigorously and consistently across the organization
  • Oversees, coordinates, and leads the HSSE Plan in AirTable, ensuring clear milestones, accountabilities, and status tracking
  • Oversees and maintains RWEA’s HSSE Homepage (SharePoint)
  • Develops the RWEA HSSE Management System program, including annual review timing, schedule, and integration into the business planning cycle
  • Ensures HSSE objectives, metrics, and targets are set, validated, and cascaded to the organization in line with enterprise objectives
  • Coordinates and leads annual risk evaluations for HSSE focus areas (e.g., workforce safety and health, process safety/reliability, environment, security, & stakeholders) to develop and help to maintain an HSSE risk profile
  • Ensures systematic identification, assessment, prioritization, and documentation of HSSE risks across the organization
  • Coordinates assurance, risk management, and safeguard assurance activities so that safeguards are in place, functioning, and aligned with internal and external requirements
  • Uses assurance results and incident/performance data to identify gaps, prioritize improvement actions, and feed them into the MSC planning cycle
  • Monitors the effectiveness of HSSE plans, adjusts as needed, and supports the closure and verification of corrective actions
  • Promotes understanding of high-consequence HSSE risks and the critical safeguards that manage them; promotes workforce participation in risk identification and improvement
  • Develops, schedules, coordinates, and facilitates Leadership Team (LT) meetings for HSSE topics
  • Provides leadership team with clear risk profiles, assurance outcomes, HSSE performance trends, and prioritized HSSE plans for decision making

 

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, or a closely related field of study
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the field of Occupational Safety and Health or a closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in North American energy, manufacturing, military, or similar field
  • Significant experience in HSSE, Operational Excellence, and/or risk management in energy or related industries
  • Demonstrated experience with HSSE/management systems, assurance programs, and leadership team engagement
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder management, and change management skills
  • Ability to analyze HSSE performance and risk data and translate into clear priorities and plans
  • Demonstrated experience with providing cross-functional coaching on proper use of tools, version control practices, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Knowledge and integration of Human and Organizational Performance
  • Design, implementation, and continual improvement of HSSE Management Systems (e.g., ANSI Z10, ISO 45001)
  • Skills in preparing and presenting concise and accurate information to executive leadership, internal and external customers, stakeholders, etc., across the organization
  • Project Management experience
  • Design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Management Systems (e.g., ISO, ANSI)
  • Design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Microsoft 365, Visio, Excel, Tableau, and Power BI
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft 365 (i.e., Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, and Azure
  • Demonstrated competency in the HSSE management discipline, particularly with administrative law, ‘IBR’ standards, and consensus standards related to HSSE
  • Implementation and management of Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Demonstrated competency in Project Management
  • Skills in preparing and presenting concise and accurate information to executive leadership, internal and external customers, stakeholders, etc., across the organization
  • Mathematical/statistical knowledge and affinity to work with numbers/statistics regularly
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
  • Independent problem-solving skills and ability to influence stakeholders in order to gain a desired result
  • Strong initiative and self-confidence to find solutions and solve problems independently
  • Reliable and systematic manner of working, customer orientation, resilience, and being able to work centrally. manage multiple stakeholder expectations
  • Detail-oriented and consistently striving for high-quality results
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively via technology, as well as in-person at various locations across the North American regions
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

 

Work Environment: 

This position is an office-based role that involves some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
