The Electrical Project Engineer at RWE Clean Energy (RWECE) is responsible for the project design of the balance of plant electrical equipment and systems for onshore wind, solar, and storage projects in the Americas. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for design of balance of plant packages during development and construction
  • Responsible for engineering project support during pre-construction, construction, and turnover to Operations
  • Responsible for grid code compliance and interconnection requirements
  • Responsible for specification and evaluation of major balance of plant electrical equipment
  • Responsible for power system modeling and studies
  • Coordinate project engineering topics during construction
  • Manage 3rd party engineering consultants
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts during the project lifecycle
  • Ensure that the highest level of health, safety, and environmental are incorporated into designs and standards
  • Support the development of electrical engineering standards
  • Support the development of engineering processes and procedures

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college engineering program
  • Advanced degree (Masters) Preferred but not required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in electrical balance of plant design, construction, and/or operations in commercial power generation, transmission, and distribution
  • Experience in renewable generation (wind turbine, solar PV, and BESS storage) project design is preferred
  • Specific areas of experience and competency include transmission design, substation design, collection and distribution design, major equipment specification, power system studies, and system protection and control
  • The role is office-based with principle office in Austin Texas. Role can also be based in Chicago, Austin, Valhalla, Boston, or San Francisco corporate offices. 100% remote (from home) is not an option.
  • Travel requirements are typically less than 25% per year for project site visits, training/workshops, and visiting other offices
  • Promote safety for all at all times
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems and equipment with particular regard to technical support of construction and operation of power systems related to wind power projects
  • Must be able to develop and assess solutions to problems and provide recommendations and support for implementation of solutions
  • Able to work closely as part of a team, this includes the local electrical engineering team, as well as the global electrical engineering team and the wider asset management team
  • Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders and customers from different disciplines, including development, construction, operations, regulatory compliance, and procurement
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and make decisions for all issues related to his/her discipline(s) with limited and/or available information
  • Must be able to adapt to tasks and prioritize work as it comes in, sometimes within short timescales
