The Apprentice Electrician is responsible for assisting peers and superiors with layout and installation of solar systems from plan. Working under the Electrician, the Apprentice Electrician will support the installation, operation, maintenance and monitoring PV solar panels. He/she must maintain a clean and secure job site at all times which includes activities such as:  grounds keeping, debris removal, hauling and hoisting materials when needed, panel washing, and oversight of contractors as required.  Must possess the ability to use hand and power tools and maintain a positive image of the company both internally and externally.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Work as a team member under the supervision of Journeyman Electrician in the layout and assembly of solar modules/array and mounting hardware including racking, modules, and electrical components
  • Assist in reviewing schematics and use an array of tools and diagnostic devises to service and install PV solar equipment. Learn regulations, codes and standards as they relate to the industry
  • Provide support to Lead Electrician as needed including: assist in the job site preparation, and setting up safety equipment
  • Perform all other preventive and predictive maintenance of electrical devices as assigned. Diagnose electrical problems and malfunctions and take corrective action
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager or site lead

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, associate degree in Electric Technology or Electronics from an accredited school preferred
  • Electrician Apprentice license or equivalent work experience

 

Experience:

  • 270 hrs of electric apprenticeship classroom training or 2,500 hours on the job training
  • OSHA 10 or higher certified
  • All applicants must possess an unrestricted driver’s license in good standing
  • Prior experience in commercial or solar hands-on electrical experience a plus
  • High voltage testing experience a plus
  • Low/medium voltage experience and certification preferred
  • Proficiency in electrical metering devices.( Multimeter, Insulation testers etc.)

 

Job Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electromechanical systems with solid foundation in theory of operation is required
  • Read, interpret, and follow electrical, mechanical, & hydraulic circuit drawings
  • Identify energy isolation points and implement LOTO for protection
  • Familiarity with power electronics, motor drives, AC/DC converters
  • Knowledge of computer network communication protocol and theory of operation is desired
  • Ability to understand and communicate root causes required
  • Good communication skills and must value being part of a team
  • Safety- Promote safety for all at all times
  • Initiative - Able to work with minimum supervision and make decisions for all issues related to his/her discipline(s) with limited and/or available information

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is a field-based role at a RWECE site locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time. Long and irregular work hours from time to time.

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California is $61,200 - $91,800.  The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
