Main Purpose of the Role

Provide effective management of day to day maintenance activities. Support broader management of the maintenance team whilst ensuring that risk based maintenance techniques are applied to deliver safe, flexible and reliable plant. Provide expertise within own discipline and maintain plant area knowledge and deliver the continuous improvement agenda to maximise the potential of the cluster within the RWE Generation portfolio. This will require effective management of resources to deliver planned business commercial and performance targets in the most productive and cost-efficient way whilst delivering the planned.

 

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety and Environmental compliance

 

Meet both legislative and corporate requirements & standards ensuring effective safety and operational practices are adopted.

 

Take ownership of maintenance compliance of plant and equipment policies & procedures.

 

Support the wider RWEG targets and initiatives relating to health, safety, wellbeing and environment, including Mission Zero, NWoW & Business KPIs.

 

Ensure operational & maintenance compliance of plant and equipment.

 

Develop and secure robust and effective maintenance arrangements with suppliers whilst maintain commercial performance of the assets

 

Manage stakeholder interfaces.

 

Maintain regular communication and continued collaboration and cooperation with E&O and the cluster colleagues.

 

Support all colleagues in delivering the asset commercial targets.

 

Develop / enhance local maintenance strategies with E&O to deliver on the agreed Asset Management Plan.

 

Manage the demands of short-term minimisation of maintenance costs with the longer term performance and life expectancy of assets.

 

Provide leadership of the Maintenance team.

Lead the dual-skilled operator-maintainers and develop other members of your team to transition to operator-maintainer. Manage the control room working arrangements.

 

Budget management and cost control

 

Develop and collate the asset medium term maintenance business plan.

 

Ensure station maintenance expenditure is within approved budgets and plans, and effectively manage resources.

 

Effectively prioritise and optimise maintenance, and ensure that processes are in place to provide support and delivery appropriately.

 

Ensure that maintenance contracts are commercially optimised in accordance with RWEG guidelines.

 

Management of Staff, Competence and Development

 

Demonstrate visible leadership and strong people management competence through positive engagement with staff at all levels, and promote a positive and informed future outlook for RWE which motivates and engages staff.

 

Promote employee wellbeing and encourage a positive team culture.

 

Ensure that people are given the right development opportunities for personal growth, and to meet the business demands and succession needs for an integrated O&M team.

 

Ensure that all staff are actively encouraged & engaged in the RWE development processes and programmes (Equip, inspire, Actuate etc.).

 

Provide discipline technical support to Operations and Maintenance Technicians including cover where necessary.

 

Engender a culture of innovation to ensure that business performance is continuously improved, including identifying areas where the power plant staff can learn from practices in place within wider RWE Generation portfolio

 

Decision making, including balancing short term commercial performance against controllable costs and the long term integrity of the asset.

 

Develop the capability of the asset to deliver optimum commercial performance.

 

Engagement with the wider RWE business

 

Manage stakeholders/partners engagement including multidisciplinary and cross functional  teams.

 

Foster ‘buy in’ and belief at all levels of the organisation.

 

Provide flexible management (where appropriate) to support the RWE fleet assets.

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong leadership qualities – this role is important in making our operating model work and developing our future culture.
  • Management experience at a team leader level with the ability to operate as a member of the cluster  leadership team while possessing good leadership skills to operate a strong team based environment.
  • Qualified to Degree Level in relevant Leadership / Management or Engineering Discipline and Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Demonstrates the ability to deal with constantly changing priorities. Attention to detail is essential; methodical, innovative, numerate, analytical and well organised.
  • Possess good leadership skills and discipline specific maintenance expertise to be able to operate in a strong team based environment, Strong ‘people management’ competence with suitable & sufficient practical experience.
  • Experienced in the management of complex plant and stakeholders, and able to provide advice to operations, maintenance and engineering.
  • Thorough understanding of the RWEG business strategy and how it adds value to the Business Plan.
  • Possess sound knowledge on power generation safety management systems including system Safety Rules.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and directives.
