Your future plans

As a Team Lead of Commercial Analysis Americas East you will provide detailed commercial & market analysis and analytical support reporting to Vice President and Head of Commercial Analysis Americas to ensure full optimization and maximization of the regional asset revenue streams and improve/optimize the RES business competitiveness. You will also provide decision support for investment decisions and M&A transactions through high-quality fundamental analysis, power price forecast/optimization models and analytical supports to enable. This includes preparing board documents and giving presentations to decision-makers. You will lead and coordinate a team of five (potentially to grow in the future) highly professional Commercial Analysts / Managers, ensuring day-to-day work and team development runs in line with best-in-class approach and RWE core behaviors.

 

Accountabilities

  • Team leadership and coordination
  • Coordinate and guide direct reports in their daily work and allocate work packages across the team.
  • Act as a sparring partner for the team members content-wise and also with regards to structuring complex tasks.
  • Enable team members to create and deliver market and commercial insights, assess their implications for RWE targets and strategy in the U.S., and build up assessments for key commercial topics.
  • Develop team members’ skills and capabilities further to ensure best-in-class analysis support for all company decisions.
  • Fundamental Analysis and Market Modelling
  • Based on clear understanding of market fundamentals, develop price forecast models for power, capacity, ancillary service, RECs, carbon, or other relevant commodities with respect to the US eastern power markets such as PJM, NYISO, ISONE, SERC, RGGI, etc.
  • Develop / maintain the methodology to forecast captured prices in various markets depending on renewable profile, wind/solar penetration, storage development etc.
  • The main generation technologies in scope are utility scale onshore wind, solar PV, offshore wind, battery, electrolyzer, flexible gas power, and CCS gas. Also time to time assess the new energy transition technologies, such as SMR. 
  • Align company key beliefs on fundamental forecast inputs (fuel prices, cost assumptions, electricity demand) with internal stakeholders and external forecasting consultants.
  • PPA pricing and risk assessment
  • Evaluate risks and pricing of different offtake products such as Firm Hedge, Collar, Put/Call options, or customized structures. Support Energy Marketing to develop structured PPA products.
  • Determine the optimal risk-adjusted generation shape and price for long-term hedge / offtake. 
  • Support Investment Team to model non-conventional PPA structures for valuation and Gate processes.
  • Offshore wind business support
  • Support offshore lease auction and RFP processes in the context of supply & demand balance and LCOE development.
  • Steer the auction strategy and bidding price discussions from commercial and market fundamental perspectives.
  • Hedging & Mid-term Planning income forecast
  • Analyze hedging strategy and shape for different markets (with reference hedge path being defined by risk), provide the analysis to support the hedging strategy.
  • Provide and update the commercial inputs to Controlling for the income forecasting according to Mid-term Planning cycles.
  • Market Analytics support
  • Lead and perform quantitative and fundamental analysis supports for Gate Process (board decisions), Acquisitions, Tax Equity transactions, Forward Hedges etc. to various stakeholders.

 

Your powerfull skills

  • PhD / Master´s degree in an analytical / numerical subject, preferably Engineering, Economics, Statistics or Mathematics and appropriate professional experience with at least five years of working experience or comparable university research career in relevant market analysis areas.
  • Previous experience working in a commercial function within a commodities environment, preferably with exposure to renewable energy sources.
  • Substantial experience in delivering market studies including power price forecasts, imbalance modelling, renewable value factor development and impacts from support mechanisms.
  • Have excellent Excel and VBA know how as well as experience in programming and/or optimization languages, e.g. Matlab, Python or GAMS, database management (i.e. Access) and capability to develop and maintain models.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentational skills (expert user of Power Point) plus ability to deal with uncertainty linked to intercultural project teams.
  • Highly proactive, identifying value opportunities and proposing solutions to them under own initiative.
  • Capable of maintaining positive working relationships while adhering to demanding deadlines.
  • Strong communication, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work across differing projects, time zones and work streams simultaneously.
  • Enthusiastic about learning and pushing technical limits and finding new solutions / out of the box thinking.
  • Team player and highly motivated.
